 Two player game
 Materials: Gameboard with 1-30 grid, crayons or colored chips,
paper/pencil
RULES:
 Player one selects a number and colors/covers it.
 Player two colors/covers all of the proper factors (all
factors other than itself) of player one’s selected
number.
 The roles are switched and play continues until there
are no numbers remaining for uncolored factors.
 Each person then adds up the numbers they have
covered. The person with the largest total is the
winner.
Product Game
 Materials: Gameboard
(http://illuminations.nctm.org/lessons/6-8/product/ProductOH-GameBoard.pdf), two-color counters, 2 paper clips
 Player one selects two factors by placing the paper clips on
them. They then use a counter to cover the product of the
chosen factors.
 Player two may move only one paper clip and covers the
product of the new factors.
 Play continues to alternate with only one paper clip being
moved each turn.
 The winner places four counters in a row horizontally,
vertically, or diagonally.

Area Creature Activity


Purpose: to review finding area and perimeter
Task: Use the grid paper provided to create a creature that
meets the following criteria:






At least one arm
At least one leg
At least one head
All body parts must be at least one centimeter wide
Area must be exactly 125 sq. cm
When you’re confident that your creature meets the criteria
listed, proceed to find the area of your creature. Record
both the area and perimeter of your creature.

Modification: Students with learning disabilities or spatial
difficulties may find it difficult to begin with grid paper. You can
provide them with the proper number of centimeter cubes and
allow them to arrange them appropriately then record on the
grid paper.
Triangle Sort
 Using the bag of triangles provided, sort them
into three groups so that no triangle belongs to
two groups.
 Use the sticky notes to describe the attributes
you sorted by for each group.
 Now sort the triangles again into three groups
so that no triangle belongs to two groups using
different attributes. Use the sticky notes to
label the new attributes.
*This sort results in definitions of the six different
types of triangles without having to list the
definitions on the board and have students
memorize them.
Creating Triangles
 Using the Anglegs, try to create each type of
triangle listed in the grid.
 If you are able to create the triangle, sketch it
in the cell it belongs (color code your sketches
to match the Anglegs).
 Cross out the cell if the triangle is impossible to
create.
 Which cells are impossible to fill? Can you tell
which ones and why?
From Wedges to Wangles
 Non-standard angle measurement
 As a table, make 12 wangles by cutting them
out, folding along the dotted lines, and taping
the vertex.
 Use the wangles to measure the angles formed
by the bold lines in the picture cards provided.
 Record the number of wangles in each picture.
 This lesson provides a foundation for
understanding protractors since the wedge is a
repeated, but also unfamiliar, unit of
measurement.
