I wish to acknowledge the dedicated members who have worked so tirelessly on the restoration of the No.1 Green. It has been my pleasure to work with them, and a very pleasing outcome has been achieved. It now looks like a bowling green and the Committee of Management, together with myself, thank you most sincerely. Painting of the club house windows and doors is currently on the go – many thanks to Val Wick for his contribution. An application has been submitted to the City of Whitehorse for a permit to install a new ‘club logo’ and sign on the fascia of our building facing the bowling greens. The winter games between Mitcham and ourselves are going well – not that I have bowled yet this year – but I hope to be ‘in the money’ in the coming weeks. My hope is that we can all work together for the betterment of our great club in the year ahead. Regards to all, Maurie. Following the AGM we have two changes to the Office Bearers. Maurie Pagram has been elected as President and we extend a big welcome to Ted Barry who has been elected as Vice-President. On the down side, we have lost Alan Wright (VicePresident) and Ralph Lloyd (Bowls Secretary). Alan has done a very good job and we will miss his input. Ralph is going to help by organising Special Events. He is currently having discussions with Blackburn, Heatherdale and Mitcham clubs trying to organise a tournament at Parliament House greens in the Spring. Our much loved friend Tess Black is in Box Hill Hospital at the time of writing. Marshall assures us that things are improving, but we should keep them both in our thoughts and prayers for a quick and complete recovery. Good luck to Kevin Bridger who goes in for a hip replacement on 6th June. SPECIAL NOTICE Arrangements are being made to order Club Shirts on Friday, 8th June. Members who desire a new shirt, are requested to put their name, shirt size and sleeve length on the list on the Notice Board, or contact Ern Minett. Proverb for the Month:“Truth stands the test of time, lies are soon exposed.” 1 CASINO TRIP INDOOR BOWLS The next Casino Trip will be held on Monday, 4th June, with the cost being $20.00 It is really important that we get 30 people to make this day both viable and enjoyable. Coach departs at 9.00 am from the club car park and returns by 3.00 pm This event is open to any members, friends and acquaintances. Get a group together and put your names on the list on the Club Notice Board. Indoor Bowls on a Monday night is still a time of fun and friendship as we roll the bowls down the green carpet on the clubhouse floor. An average of about 1418 players come along and there is plenty of room for more to enjoy the time together. We can accommodate 32 players on any night and there is an open invitation for any who would like to come and join with us for a time of fun and friendship. You will be made most welcome. Eventually all of our Championships have been completed and the winners are as follows:Ladies Champion - C. Cochaud. Men’s Champion - K. Tacey Mixed Pairs Champions - P. Wilson & L. Drake Come and join us – we have a lot of fun. Keith Tacey AROUND THE GREENS WORKING BEES Working bees are being held on the last Thursday of every month at 9.00 am and it has been pleasing to see the amount of work that has been carried out during recent months. There are always plenty of little jobs to be done to keep our facilities in good condition. Members are encouraged to come along for an hour or so to help keep our club grounds and surrounds in good condition, You don’t have to be an expert in any field - just prepared to give a hand. LADIES CHAT HOUSE CLEANING ROSTER On Tuesday 22nd May starting at 1.00pm, we held our first indoor bowls. 12 people turned up to play and if the amount of laughter is anything to go by everyone enjoyed themselves. Judging by the number of bowls that ran off the mat I think many of us were still playing as we would outside. We will gradually get used to the game. The afternoon is open to all, so if you would like to play, put your name down on the notice board - the one directly opposite the entrance to the Club house, on the side of the cupboard that holds the indoor bowls equipment. You will enjoy the game, cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit after 10 games, then, play another round of 8 or 10 games, finishing about 3.00pm. Cost is $2. I tried to arrange a Blumes Fashion Show for spring this year but they were booked out. Next year, as people have asked for a spring show I have arranged two shows for 2013: both are on Fridays - commencing at noon with lunch and 1.30pm Fashion Show on 15th March and 13th September. Please note that Tuesday Pennant - for the season 2012/2013 begins on 25th September 2012. This is earlier than last year so please make a note of the starting date. Further dates appear under the heading “Pennant”. The week before we play Pennant, that is on the 18th September, we are having a meeting, commencing at 9.30am, This is for all who have put their names down to play Tuesday Pennant; this will then be followed by Pennant Practice. June JUNE Ray Randall, Marty Sencek, Glen Crothers. JUST FOR FUN A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office. 'Is it true,' she wanted to know, 'that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?' 'Yes, I'm afraid so,' the doctor told her. There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, ”I'm wondering, then, just how serious is my condition because this prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS'.” ********** An older gentleman was on the operating table awaiting surgery, and he insisted that his son, a renowned surgeon, perform the operation. As he was about to get the anaesthesia, he asked to speak to his son. 'Yes, Dad, what is it? ' 'Don't be nervous, son; do your best and just remember, if it doesn't go well, if something happens to me, your mother is going to come and live with you and your wife....' ********** Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've travelled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved. 2 This Newsletter kindly printed courtesy of the North Blackburn Shopping Centre Management.
