We had an amazing turnout for our open house and we’re so excited to see all of you! We understand that it was hard to hear from where some of you were standing and for those of you that were not able to make it to the open house here are some new things you may have missed: ATTENDANCE POLICY: Absences: You will receive a letter from the school notifying you of your child’s 3rd, 5th and 7th absences. On the seventh absence you may be required to have an attendance hearing with Mr. Floerchinger, your student’s teacher, and the superintendent. The absence count starts back at zero at semester. Tardies: Once your student has reached 3 tardies you will receive a phone call from Mr. Floerchinger. On the 7th tardy the student will be required to owe time for time. Which means, for every minute the student is late, he/she will be required to owe time in the office afterschool on Thursday. (ie: tardy 15 minutes will have to stay until 3:50 on Thursday) (Please note that Time for Time minute count is from Thursday to Thursday) Parents will check in at the office to pick up their child(ren) from Thursday Time for Time. If a student brings their cell phone, or parents would like them to FEW REMINDERS FROM THE OFFICE IS YOUR CHILD GOING TO BE ABSENT OR LATE FOR THE DAY. Please give us a call in the morning before 8:30 if your child is going to be late, absent for an appointment or just out sick. We must account for each and every student before 9:00. Please remember if you don’t get through the first time please try us again as the phone lines are crazy in the mornings!! TELEPHONE MESSAGES. All telephone messages concerning children during school hours should be made before 2:45 p.m. This allows the office sufficient time to contact your child before going to the bus or leaving the building. In order for your child to be issued a bus pass allowing him/her to ride a bus other than the one he/she normally rides, they must bring a written and signed note from home or a phone call must be made to the office and to the bus garage (532-2542). If your child is to do anything different after school other than what he/she would normally do (i.e. walk to a friend’s house, ride a different bus, etc.) and only if you feel like they need to be reminded please contact to the office in advance. PHONE CALLS TO STAFF (teachers/aids). Phone Calls and Messages for staff members will be posted in their mailboxes or you will be directed right to their voice mail. Only in emergency situations will the classroom be interrupted. As a reminder, it is always good to make an appointment with your student’s teacher to ensure that they will be available. All our teacher have an email with the district, see our staff list on our website! KEEP AT HOME. We have had a few things brought to school that aren’t school appropriate. It is always exciting to bring items such as new toys from home to share with friends and classmates. We trust that parents are aware of items kids are bringing to school. Items are to be kept in backpacks until their designated share time. These items are not allowed to be out at recess or throughout the building. Students are discouraged from bringing items to school for any other reason. We expect that students will be responsible for their personal possessions. Please keep in mind that we are not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or missing items. INTRODUCING A FEW NEW FACES We are very excited to introduce to you 2 new 4th Grade Teachers, our new Counselor, and Nurses Aid: Mrs. Craig: I live outside of Lingle with my husband Ryen, our two dogs and eight cats! As you are now probably realizing, it is true, I am an animal lover who cannot turn away the strays that travel the countryside. In my free time, when I am not with family or friends I enjoy photography and baking. This will be my 6th year teaching & my first year at Trail Elementary. I am so excited to be here! I grew up in Platteville, Colorado. My teachers would have considered me a social butterfly that it didn’t matter where they placed me in the room, I was going to strike up a conversation. Outside of school, I have a very big and tight knit family. My cousins were my best friends and still some of my favorite people today. In December of 2006, I graduated with a Bachelors Degree with an endorsement in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Mrs. Hunter: This will be my first year teaching. For the past few years I have been working with the after school program as the Curriculum Coordinator here in Torrington. I grew up in McCook, NE, but moved to Wyoming in 2007 when I got married. My husband is originally from Torrington so we were very excited to move back here 4 years ago. I have three beautiful children, ages 8, 7, and 5. All 3 of them will be attending school this year, so it is a very busy time at our house right now! Mr. Janecek: I am the new counselor and I am excited to be a part of the Trail team. I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1996 and spent my first three years in education working at Alliance High School in Alliance, Nebraska. In 1999, I began working at Gering Junior High in Gering, Nebraska. For the last 12 years, I was a counselor at Northfield Elementary in Gering. I have a Master’s Degree from Chadron State College as well as an administrative endorsement. I am married to a wonderful woman named Mickie and we have two sons. Quinton is a sophomore and Maddux is in 6th grade. We spend a lot of time chasing the two of them around. I also am a big sports fan. For the past couple of weeks, I have enjoyed getting to know everyone here at Trail. I am trying hard to learn the name of everyone in the building. I am the person you may see outside in the morning or after school, talking to the kids in the cafeteria at lunch, or roaming the halls or the classrooms. I believe my job is to help our students be the best they can be. I am looking forward to the school year. Ms. Rocio Ruiz: I came to Trail in February of the year last year. I came back to Torrington from Texas and excited to be back in Wyoming with some great old friends and family. I have a daughter who is a freshman and a son who is a 3rd Grader. I am excited to be working with Nurse Cathy and the entire Trail Staff and students. I split my day with Trail and Lincoln. I spend my morning with Lincoln and my afternoons with Trail. ALL PRO PARENTS!!! During the 2016-17 school year, Trail Elementary will be attempting to start a new program. Once a month, students and their adults can come together in the library to start their day with breakfast, conversation, inspiration, fun, and prizes. These All Pro Dad’s breakfasts will be a great time for kids to spend quality time with their significant adult, not just dads. Everyone is welcome. Tony Dungy, the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts helped start the program in hopes of helping to establish positive relationships. Currently, the plan is to have an All-Pro Dad’s breakfast every month, hopefully on the second Tuesday of that month. The kickoff meeting for the 2016-2017 school year will take place on September 13th. During the breakfasts, students and their adults will be asked to come to school around 7:10 and go to the library. Feel free to bring your own breakfast or some rolls will be provided. In the library, everyone will be able to eat and then be able to be a part of the program for the day. During the September 13th meeting, we’ll look at the special relationship a dad and son have. Prizes will be given away at the conclusion of the meeting. The whole meeting should take about 30 minutes. Please plan to join us for this rewarding time. Hopefully we can continue to make these meetings successful regular occurrences. If you have any questions, please contact Matt Janecek, the school counselor at Trail either by e-mailing him at [email protected] or by calling the school. We’ll look forward to seeing you there. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss
