Training for Success Using ILT - 30th April 2008 - South West College, Omagh Campus
Examples of best practice in using ILT/e-Learning; find out what's going on in the sector, meet colleagues and share ideas, discuss ILT
training requirements, help shape the next event.
The Training for Success Programme is available online and you can reserve your place using the online booking form.
Federated Access Management – Setting Up Your Systems
Colleges will need to be ready for participating in the UK Access Management Federation by July of this year if they are to continue to
use JISC online resources. This will require an audit of current directory structures and the construction of new features. RSCni has
brokered a significant 3-day workshop with the Netskills team for this purpose.
The workshop will take place 20-22 May 2008 at Riddel Hall, Queen’s University and is aimed at network support staff and managers.
RSCni has negotiated a 2 for 1 discount for FE colleges for those attending this workshop. For further details and to make a booking,
please contact [email protected] directly. Places are strictly limited to a maximum of 12 delegates and Netskills have agreed to
take local bookings first before placing details on their website.

Innovative Learning with Mobile and Wireless Technology: 1st May 2008, Caledonian Academy, Glasgow Caledonian
University, Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow
This free event has been developed for e-learning staff, lecturers and information services staff and is funded and delivered by JISC
and the Higher Education Academy and administered by JISC RSC Scotland South & West for the benefit of interested staff from all
post-16 institutions and sectors across the UK.
Seventh International JISC/CNI Conference: 10th to 11th July 2008, Europa Hastings Hotel, Belfast
The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) are proud to announce that the 7th
International Meeting will be held at the Europa Hastings Hotel, Belfast on 10th and 11th July 2008.

ILT Training Needs Analysis Final Report
The final report of the ILT training needs analysis commissioned by the DEL is now available here. Copies have been issued to
colleges, along with each individual college’s data from the online staff survey.

ILT Funding Opportunity
Funding for innovative ILT/e-learning projects is now available from JISC. Sums available range from, £25000 to £75000, per project,
with a focus on one or more of: e-Assessment, e-Portfolios, Learning Resources and Activities, e-Administration for Learning and
Teaching and Technology Supported Learning Environments.
Applications, delivered online, will be taken over 3 timescales, closing date for the first of which is midday, 5th May 2008.

e-Resources Repository Opens Up
Jorum, the UK national repository for learning and teaching materials funded by JISC, is to offer open educational resources. This will
make it easier for lecturers and teaching staff to share and re-use each other's teaching resources. JorumOpen - as it will be called will also provide a showcase for UK universities and colleges on the international stage. More information here.

Password pain looks set to ease
Tech giants Microsoft, IBM, Google and Yahoo have joined the board of the Open ID Foundation which aims to streamline login
systems across the web. The Foundation wants to bring about a system that could mean one ID acts as a guarantor of a person's
identity across all the sites they have signed up for. Already more than 10,000 websites have adopted the Open ID approach.

Latest figures released by the NI Executive have confirmed that the economy continues to do well. This is of interest to colleges in their

Exploring Tangible Benefits of e-Learning: Does investment yield interest?
JISC infoNet have just published a report on whether using e-learning brings tangible benefits. Among the parameters examined
were - effects on learning; exam results; student and staff satisfaction. The full report and a series of case studies can be downloaded
