One Team One Focus Your Child

Autism Indicators
The following “red flags” could mean
your child is at risk for an autism
spectrum disorder (ASD).
Possible Warning Signs
 No big smiles or other joyful
expressions by six months and
beyond
 No back-and-forth sharing of sounds,
smiles or other facial expressions by
nine months
 No babbling by 12 months
 No back-and-forth gestures such as
pointing, reaching or waving by 12
months
 No words by 16 months
 No meaningful, two-word phrases (not
including imitating or repeating) by 24
months
Many families struggle with the next
steps if they suspect or have been told
their child may have autism. Diagnosis
of the disorder can be a slow, uncertain
and exhausting process. Waiting lists
are long and appointments can be
months away.
Knowing where to turn for testing and
diagnosis is an important first step and
the WEG can help.
Recent studies confirm great benefits
from behavioral therapies for children
with autism spectrum disorder (ASD),
especially when started between the
ages of 2 to 5.

One Team
One Focus
Your Child
An inter-disciplinary team
approach to autism assessment
for infants and toddlers
An estimated 1 in 88 children
is diagnosed with an autism
spectrum disorder (ASD)
according to estimates from
the CDC's Autism and
Developmental Disabilities
Monitoring (ADDM) Network.
“There is no debate or doubt:
early intervention is your child’s
best hope for the future. Early
attention to improving the core
behavioral symptoms of autism
will give your child – and the rest
of the family – several important
benefits that you will not gain if
you take a wait-and-see approach
until your child enters school at
age four or five.”
Wendy L. Stone, PhD, with
Theresa Foy DiGeromino, Med,
Does My Child Have Autism?
“A treatment method or an
educational method that will work
for one child may not work for
another child. The one common
denominator for all of the young
children is that early intervention
does work, and it seems to
improve the prognosis.”
– Dr. Temple Grandin
What You Can Do
Do not delay in getting help for
you and your family.
Weinfeld Education Group
(WEG) has created the Early
Autism Evaluation to serve
families in Washington D.C.,
Maryland, and Virginia.
Our inter-disciplinary team focuses
on autism assessment for children
from birth through six years of age
and beyond.
Our team approach reduces wait
time and quickly gets answers
needed to start early interventions.
Our goal is to complete full
evaluation within six weeks.
4. Additional team members may
perform specialized evaluations,
which may include:
 Developmental Pediatrics
 Occupational Therapy
Evaluation
 Speech-Language Evaluation
 Physical Therapy Evaluation
 Behavior (including experts in
Applied Behavior Analysis)
1. A psychologist will oversee the
process and coordinate all parts
of the evaluation.
5. The psychologist prepares an
interdisciplinary report with one set of
integrated findings and
recommendations.
2. The psychologist begins every
evaluation by meeting with the
family. (Language interpreters
may be available.)
6. The lead psychologist will "check-in"
on your case at 1-3 months following
the assessment.
3. If requested, a Family Support
Specialist may be assigned to
guide families step by step
through the evaluations. They will
also answer your questions, help
with appointment scheduling, and
in some cases, arrange
transportation to appointments.
