Postgraduate Programme Manager (Teaching Fellow) Job Description School/Ri/Directorate: School of Pharmacy Responsible to: Director of Postgraduate Studies Responsible for: Grade: Grade:8 Incremental Scale: Yes Starting Salary: £40,523 Hours: Full time Role Summary: To provide academic teaching and scholarship input into the continuing development and delivery of the School of Pharmacy’s well-established and critically acclaimed postgraduate programmes and related courses that are delivered through the School’s Centre for Professional Development and Lifelong Learning. To lead and manage the primary care and community pharmacy courses and related modules. This includes ensuring delivery of courses to community pharmacy organisations with whom we have a contract, and the development of our Clinical Pharmacy for GP practice courses. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Work Processes and results Learning and Teaching Support Act as a course/programme leader taking responsibility for the development and management of the primary care, community pharmacy and related courses; Design teaching materials, learning support activities and assessment methods that are appropriate, and may be innovative, and which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students; Review on a regular basis, course content and materials, updating when required, and identifying the need for developing the content or structure of the modules/courses; Ensure that module/course design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University and School; To take sole responsibility for the design, delivery and quality assurance of own modules/courses, including assessment strategy, student progress and retention; To set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students; To moderate the marking of assessments by other tutors; Supervise and provide pastoral care to a wide range of students; Supervise postgraduate student projects at Diploma and MSc level; To train part-time tutors and develop the networks of tutors who contribute to the delivery of the 01 August 2017 programme; Contribute to the accreditation of courses and quality control processes, including preparation for University Examination Boards. Scholarship Engage in professional and educational scholarship as required, to support teaching and student supervision activities; Conduct individual or collaborative scholarly projects and disseminate the results of such activity; Maintain a broad, comprehensive knowledge of current professional practice, research and scholarship in relevant fields to ensure that teaching is of the quality expected by a leading University; Extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities. General Co-ordinate the work of colleagues to identify and respond to students’ needs in relation to the primary care and community pharmacy pathway; Undertake marketing and recruitment activities related to the course; Develop ideas for generating income and promoting the subject; Tackle issues affecting the delivery of modules/courses within scope of own level of responsibility, referring more serious matters to others, as appropriate; Spot opportunities for strategic development of new courses or appropriate areas of activity and contribute to the development of such ideas; Contribute to decisions which have an impact on all School postgraduate courses/programmes, e.g. Learning and Teaching Strategy; To co-ordinate the work of others (such as support staff or academic colleagues) to ensure student needs and expectations are met; To take responsibility for quality, audit and other external assessments in own areas of responsibility; To undertake administrative duties within own areas of responsibility; To take part in School level strategic planning and contribute to wider strategic planning processes in the institution, as required. Attend meetings, which may be national, with external agencies and providers where necessary Team Work Work closely with both internal (i.e. academic colleagues and support staff) and external colleagues to ensure effective integration with all aspects of the programme and to ensure student needs and expectations are met; Collaborate with School colleagues in continuous review and development of curricula and teaching/learning and assessment materials for existing and new programmes; Mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development; Provide cover for academic colleagues in their absence, as required. Communication / Documentation Communicate effectively across a wide range of audiences; Liaise, establish and maintain positive links with external agencies and providers; To be the day to day contact for the community pharmacy organisations with whom a contract is held, to deliver a Postgraduate Diploma; Participate in external networks to build relationships for the benefit of the School’s activities and personal development; Resolve problems affecting the quality of course delivery and student progress within own 01 August 2017 areas of responsibility, referring more serious matters to others, as appropriate; To take responsibility for the pastoral care of students within own areas of responsibility. Supervision / Staffing Depending on the area of work, to supervise and/or co-ordinate the work of others, to ensure that teaching/learning materials modules/courses and programmes are delivered to the standards required, as necessary.
