Nenagh Neptune Swimming Club Guardian Report 5th February 2017

Nenagh Neptune Swimming Club
Gala Report Grade 1 – Tralee
Shane McAteer made the long trip to the Grade 1 gala in Tralee last week and the journey
was worthwhile as he returned with two gold medals from two events swam. A 2 second
Personal Best in the 100 m. freestyle and a great swim of 1:19 in the 100 m. butterfly were
good enough to take the top honours. A fitting reward for a lot of hard work and emphasis
on technique this season. Congrats Shane.

Tipperary Tiger Sharks Gala – Feb 5th
One of our largest teams to hit the water represented Nenagh Neptune last Sunday when 21
swimmers competed at Tipperary Town. The hard work in training over the last few months was
evident and Personal Bests were in vogue across all squads. Conor Leahy showed great leadership to
the younger swimmers achieving PB’s in 3 events and winning 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze along the
way. In the 100 freestyle event for example, 90% of Nenagh swimmers managed a Personal Best
time – well done to all. But perhaps the highlight of the day came at the end of the gala in the Girls
Medley Relay. Neptune had two teams entered, in both the Junior and Senior categories. And after
unbelievably exciting racing with the large gallery roaring their support for their teams, both Nenagh
girls teams touched in medal positions. Very well done to Ellarose Craven, Sophie Hogan, Sophia
Leamy and Aoife Duggan in the Senior race and to Sarah Quigley, Sarah Gleeson, Kseniya Nita and
Aiveen O’Brien in the Junior. But in truth, the whole team performed really well all day and great
credit is due to coaches Shay O’Dwyer and Cathy Craven who were on hand with timely advice to
help everyone.
