Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are very pleased to announce that or next Guest Speaker will be Duncan Hawthorne, CEO of
Horizon Nuclear Power. He was appointed in May 2016 having been a Non-executive Director of
Horizon since 2013 and CEO of Bruce Power, one of the world’s largest nuclear power plants since
it was formed in 2001.
Originally from Scotland, Duncan joined the power industry there as an apprentice with British
Energy and spent time at the South of Scotland Electricity Board power stations. At 21 he went to
Strathclyde University on a scholarship where he gained an MBA and Duncan also holds an
Honours Degree in Control Engineering. He eventually headed to North America as part of
AmerGen and ultimately settled in Canada where he focused on developing Bruce Power.
Mr. Hawthorne is the Former Chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators and he is a
Fellow of both the Institution of Electrical Engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Duncan brings with him a wealth of industry experience having worked in the power generation
business for thirty years and now heads up the Company that is the key player in the development
of Wylfa2. This project has the capability of being a real game changer for the economy of North
Wales. It is therefore more than a pleasure to be able to welcome Duncan to the Club where he
can update us on progress on this massive Wylfa project.
Yours sincerely,
David. W. Williams MBE DL
