STEP 1: Review the student’s ISIR confirmation page STEP 2: Complete an Estimated Financial Plan (EFP) STEP 3: The remaining investment conversation STEP 4: Discuss student follow-up /12 FAST: STEP 1 Review the ISIR Confirmation page • What is the student’s dependency status? • Are there verification or C-Code issues? • If so, discuss what the student needs to resolve these issues • What is the student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC)? /13 FAST: STEP 2 Complete the Estimated Financial Plan (EFP) • What kind of funding am I eligible for? • How much funding am I eligible for? • Are there any other benefits I’m eligible for? • How do my credit hours effect my funding eligibility? /14 FAST: STEP 3 Conduct an investment conversation with the student • Can the student afford their remaining investment? • Is the student comfortable with their remaining investment? • Does the student need a payment plan? /15 FAST: STEP 4 Setting up funding for the remaining investment • Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) • Complete the Loan Entrance Counseling (LEQ) • Complete the authorizations in the Student Portal /16 FIRST ADVISING MEETING (FAM) /17 FIRST ADVISING MEETING The First Advising Meeting (FAM) is meant to welcome the student to the university! This meeting should help the student to become orientated with their campus or center, and also to position the student for success by ensuring their classes and program are properly enrolled. • Summarize how Student Central will support the student and describe the SSA role • Verify the student’s information • Confirm the student’s degree program • Review DegreeWorks and the student’s course plan • Review transcript information (if applicable) • Walkthrough the registration process /18 FAM: DEGREE PROGRAM REVIEW • • • • • Discuss why they chose this program Review the degree specifics using the academic catalog Review and verify the current course schedule Explain any pre-requisites and co-requisites Answer any and all questions /19 FAM: DEGREEWORKS AND COURSE PLAN • • • • • Discuss why they chose this program Review the degree specifics using the academic catalog Review and verify the current course schedule Explain any pre-requisites and co-requisites Answer any and all questions /20 FAM: TRANSCRIPTS REVIEW • Review and display the number of credit hours required for their chosen program • Using ImageNow identify their transcript evaluation and determine how many credits were able to be transferred into the student’s degree program • If the student has not turned in transcripts, but thinks they may have applicable classes from another university, go through the transcript request process. /21 FAM: REGISTRATION WALK THROUGH • Ensure to continue to track additional transcript information that may become available • Remind students about registering early • Demonstrate self-registration procedures • Review the attendance policy and ensure the student knows the importance of attending every class • Provide the student with a reminder about the online component of their course /22 STUDENT CLEARANCE PROCESS /23 STUDENT CLEARANCE Students may begin to register prior to the FAM and FAS meetings. Admissions will typically begin the registration process and all classes that have been registered for should be verified by the SSA.
