At Scobie McIntosh, we never fall out of our depth in
undertaking challenging projects. That’s why we were
awarded the contract to manage the design, development
and installation of catering facilities aboard an offshore oil
facility in the North Sea.
Case Study:
Offshore Oil Rig, North Sea
Project Overview
Scobie McIntosh were awarded the contract to design, develop and
install the catering facilities on board an offshore oil facility situated
in the North Sea.

The Scobie team are fully conversant with the specialised requirements relating to working within an offshore environment. Accustomed as we were to operate in a logistically challenging environment with demanding security and safety requirements.
Business Challenge
The Scobie team overcame significant challenges including
adopting extensive health and safety standards and utilising the
limited space available. Since the Piper Alpha incident, there are
particular challenges to offshore projects in that every aspect of
supplying the required equipment is subject to extensive health
and safety requirements.

checks
Despite the logistical constraints of delivering this project on board
an oil rig, the project team was able to draw on experience from
earlier projects to successfully deliver the project.
Scobie McIntosh also encountered other challenges. Electricity supplies can vary depending on which sector of the North Sea the rig
is positioned, and the nationality of the company that operate the
rig. We had to ensure that this was taken into account when designing and installing.
To further complicate matters, our team had to take into consideration the expected yaw and pitch of a rig when it is being moved or
operated which can be quite considerable.
