ON-LINE REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS/STEPS: 1. Log onto www.skillsusa-register.org to register your chapter for the 2re Conference. 2. You will enter your email address and the password. If you did not previously create a password, then you can do so on the site by following the instructions listed. 3. After you have logged in, click on the “Conference” tab at the top of the page and click on “My Registrations” from the drop down box. 4. From the Filter Event Drop down box choose the appropriate conference (2re/Fall Leadership Conference. 5. Begin registering your chapter by clicking on the ADD REGISTRANT button at the top of the page. 6. Complete the following information for each conference participant (Advisor, Student, Chaperone): a. Participants first and last name, street address, city, state and zip. b. Reg. Type (Select either Advisor, Student Participant or Chaperone from the drop down list) c. Select the appropriate shirt size. d. You DO NOT need to complete the tabs labeled Contest, Details or Emergency. e. Click on the tab labeled State Info. i. Check the box if your student will enter the Statesman Award Competition, Distinguished Statesman Award. ii. Check the box if your chapter plans to enter into a Competitive Event. f. Click Save Registration and the information will be saved and you will be able to add additional participants. 7. PLEASE ensure the following: a. Each attendee’s name is spelled correctly b. Each attendee has a shirt size listed on the form c. You have indicated which attendees will be completing the Statesman Award evaluation. 8. Once you have completed registering all of your attendees, you will now need to complete the HOTEL PLANNER portion of the registration. a. Click on the HOTEL PLANNER button at the top of the page. b. Click on each of your registered members and drag and drop them into an available appropriate hotel room. i. Rooms must be either all female or all male. ii. This steps allows you to determine which students are housed together. c. BE CAREFUL - Make sure that you use single and double rooms appropriately. Teachers/advisors will assume full responsibility that delegates abide by the SkillsUSA Georgia dress code and code of behavior at all times including travel to and from conference. Participants shall be prompt and prepared for all activities. All delegates shall behave in a courteous manner and refrain from language and/or actions that could bring discredit upon them, their school and/or SkillsUSA Georgia. Delegates should wear name badges at all times except in sleeping quarters. Delegates shall be fully clothed at all times outside of living quarters. This includes movement between rooms. Delegates agree not to consume or have in possession any alcoholic beverages or non-prescription narcotics, gamble, smoke or use other tobacco products during the conference. Conduct not conducive to an educational conference will not be tolerated. Examples of unacceptable conduct includes, but is not limited to, disrupting a businesslike atmosphere, consorting with non-conference individuals or any activities which will endanger self or others. Delegates are expected to attend all general sessions. Student participants shall not leave the hotel premises without the permission from their advisor. Delegates shall keep their advisors informed of their activities and whereabouts at all times. Delegates shall observe the curfew hour. It is the responsibility of the teacher/advisor to ensure compliance with this article. Delegates shall refrain from all types of roughhousing including dropping articles out of the windows. Delegates understand that girls’ hotel rooms are off limits to boys and boys’ rooms are off limits for girls unless an advisor is present. Chapters found in violation will be asked to leave. Delegates agree to pay for all phone calls made from their rooms. These will be shown on individual bills and paid for by the local chapter or chapter members. Delegates shall respect the hotel property of which they are a guest and will pay for any property damage or loss that occurs due to their stay during the conference. Delegates shall not use portable stereos or other loud music making devices outside their rooms and will keep the volume low while they are in rooms. Participants violating any of the rules of conduct will subject their entire delegation to be unseated. Participants may be sent home at their own expense for violating any of these rules of conduct. Violators (and their chapter) may be suspended for one year. It is hoped that each student attending the conference will take this Code of Behavior with a positive attitude so that SkillsUSA Georgia will continue to have the respect of education, business people and the general public. The link must be emailed to SkillsUSA GA at [email protected]. DEADLINE: October 14th by 5PM. The video must start with 10 seconds of black before the opening titles and 10 more seconds of black after the end of the entry. Using computer graphics, identify on the video itself, approximately 10 seconds before the video begins and after 10 seconds of black, the title, 2re Conference Promo Entry, and the school. Put any credits at the end rather than the beginning of your entry. The timing of the video will begin as soon as the first image of the video appears. The opening graphics and the ending credits will not be included in the timing of the video. Only current members of SkillsUSA may work on the video. Copyrighted music and the use of scenes from prerecorded tapes are not permissible unless permission for such copyrighted material has been obtained. If permission is granted, Copyrighted material must be acknowledged in a graphic during the credits (“footage provided by Universal Studios”, for example). If copyrighted music is involved, the artist and recording label must be acknowledged in the credits. Failure to obtain permission will result in disqualification. Schools are strongly encouraged to produce their own music with school choruses and orchestras, local bands, or with music creation programs like Soundtrack and Garage Band. PROMO VIDEO- SPECIFIC GUIDELINES PURPOSE: To create a 2re promotional video that the SkillsUSA GA State Office can use to show to students for the 2017 school year as a way to promote the conference. This will be used via social media and in local classrooms. The state office will provide the video to teachers so that they can show it to their students to promote the conference. ELIGIBILITY: Open to all active SkillsUSA members. SUBMISSION: Entries should be submitted by uploading to YouTube or SchoolTube. The link must be sent to the state office at [email protected]. AWARDS: SkillsUSA GA will judge all entries. Entries will be narrowed down to the top 3 videos. At the 2re Conference, videos will be shown to the attendees and they will vote on the winning promotional video (idea of a People’s Choice Awards). The winner will be announced at the closing general session. The video will be used for the 2017 promotion of 2re. Plaques will be given to the top three schools. SCOPE OF THE CONTEST: The team will be comprised of two to five members who will produce a 30 - 60 second video that focuses on the following: Enticing potential members to attend SkillsUSA Georgia’s 2re Conference through the use of exciting and fast paced video production. THEME: The video can use any theme as long as it supports the purpose and provides a tool that can be used to: Creating energy and enthusiasm for SkillsUSA. Creating passion for SkillsUSA. Persuade students to join SkillsUSA. Please note the video should be cool and relevant to high school students while exciting them about SkillsUSA and specifically the 2re Conference. Hard to explain but easy to recognize, creativity elicits viewer responses like “how clever!” or “I wish I had thought of that.” Clarity of Message 20 Although some national commercials leave viewers scratching their heads about exactly what was being promoted or what they should do after having seen the commercial, our contest encourages schools to air commercials and PSAs with clear messages. Clarity is often achieved with simplicity because, after all, you have only 60 seconds to get your message out. Repeating your message usually reinforces it, as does the use of attention-getting graphics. Motivational Power Any elements which motivate viewers (especially students) to buy the product, perform the activity, come out to the event, contribute to the fund raiser, etc. The more judges are moved to positive action, the higher this score should be, although different people are motivated by different factors. For some, excitement does the trick, while for others a sense of duty or responsibility can be just as powerful a motivator. Still a third group participates because their peers are doing so in large numbers, while other motivational ploys target a search for good price bargains or the desire to be top dog in a contest.
