Class 6H Autumn Newsletter [docx 3MB]

Topic: Amazing Me
As you are aware, the children started our new curriculum topic today with a
sparkling start focusing on the theme, ‘Amazing Me’. During this first half term, we
will be finding out about the human body. If your child would like to bring in any
work/items from home to share with the class, they would be much appreciated.
Class Dojo
Using Class Dojo as a tool to celebrate and reward the children’s successes has
made a smooth transition into 6H. Points are rewarded, linking clearly with
the School’s House Point system and our own class treats system. Already, we
have had a very positive response from parents. Thank you. If you have not
yet signed up, please do so. Not only will you receive alerts regarding when
and why your child has earned a dojo point but when you sign up, your
children will be able to send you photographs of work that they are
particularly proud of. It is also an excellent communication tool between
parent and class teacher. Please sign up using the letter sent previously this
week and return it to school signed so that we can really get the most out of
the Class Dojo App.
Spellings
The successful trial of our home spelling system at the end of Year Five will
continue into Year Six and begin next week. Children will be given five new
words to learn each week. Please help your child by reading the information
provided within the spelling journal and support them with practising their
spellings each night and returning their books to school the next day. Books will
be monitored daily and if there is no evidence of spelling practice done at home,
I will, unfortunately, require your child to practice the spellings during their
lunch time. The intention is not to punish but to encourage children to take
responsibility for their learning and, ultimately, become better spellers. Each
week, your child will be tested on their words – it would be great if they could let
you know how they got on through the use of Class Dojo!
Homework
6H Homework will be given out on a Thursday and the deadline in which to return it will be the following Tuesday. The
same dates will apply for children in my maths class. If your child has Mrs Dodds or Mrs Scotter for maths, the homework
dates/routines may vary. We do have Homework Diaries in school although I am hoping to firstly trial Class Dojo as a way
of communicating any matters related to homework before giving out Homework Diaries.
Bug Club
Your child has been allocated a selection of books on Bug Club to access
at home based on teacher assessments. Encourage your child to read
daily and fully engage and focus with what they are reading so that they
can understand the text and then demonstrate sound successes when
answering the comprehension questions.
Please do the best that you can to support your child with reading at
home, as we discussed in last year’s parent workshops when launching
the Bug Club scheme, the impact that positive experiences with reading
has on your child is immeasurable.
Every time you listen to your child read, whether it be a book from the
library or one you have at home, or an e-book from Bug Club, please
record it in your child’s Reading Record. The Reading Records are a vital
tool to support teacher assessment and children need to show
responsibility for taking them home each night, reading as often as
possible and bringing them into school the next day. Losing, misplacing or
forgetting to bring the Reading Record into school makes assessing your
child’s reading ability a little more difficult. Your help with this would be
greatly appreciated.
P.E / School Uniform
Regarding P.E, outdoor P.E kit is required for Mondays and Fridays this half term. Hopefully, you will have received your
letter regarding Friday’s P.E lessons taking place in the mornings at Oasis Academy Wintringham. During the Friday
session we will be doing hockey; Mondays will be basketball.
With regards to school uniform, indoor plimsolls are part of the school uniform so please check that your child has an
appropriate pair in school.
Finally, I look forward to what promises to be a very busy, but surely
very successful and rewarding, year ahead with your child and the
class. Should you ever have any concerns regarding any aspect of your
child’s development or well-being in school, please do not hesitate to
contact me and I will do my best to resolve the issue as effectively as
possible.
Many thanks
Adam Hughes
