My own story is high-drama, and I’ll share it with you before we finish. For now,
let me just confess that I was broke and on my way out of chiropractic altogether

Here are three things I devoutly believe:
1: The traditional chiropractic practice….treating back pain, neck pain,
shoulder pain, headaches….predominately fed by patients with new
injuries…..and relying on insurance for payment….is a Dead Dinosaur Walking.
Income provided by such a practice will GO DOWN in years to come. If you do
not design a practice that serves patients with acute and extreme needs who are
willing to pay out of pocket for your expertise and care, you will inevitably –
sooner, not later- see your income pushed down, your ability to charge restricted,
your fees controlled. And if you wait and procrastinate until you MUST deal with
this, it’ll be too late.
2: Virtually everything being taught to chiropractors in seminars, sold to
them in new patient marketing programs, preached to them by “gurus” and
consultants…is STILL, ALL linked to the traditional practice. None of it can
lead and guide you out of ‘Death Valley’ into a NEW Practice in a new ‘place’,
where you can create first-class citizen status and a professional income for
yourself. (Bluntly, only I am doing that. Some hate me and criticize me for it. The
‘old guard’ is threatened by me. But I have THE fastest growing Program.)
3: A new clinical model is necessary, not just “better marketing.” With my
Method, you will be a legitimate expert in the treatment of spinal stenosis, chronic
pain, herniated discs, dizziness-vertigo-balance dysfunction (the fastest growing
“boomer” health problem), fibromyalgia, thyroid conditions, RSDS, RLS,
peripheral neuropathy, MS, early-stage Alzheimer’s, stroke-rehab, migraines and
even ADD/ADHD. You will have neurologically and metabolically-based,
comprehensive treatments and therapies to offer that set you apart in the eyes of
your patients and those they refer…and in efficacy….from every other
practitioner, D.C. or M.D. I strongly feel that in the field of chiropractic, way too
much emphasis is placed on “better marketing” and not enough on having
something to market (ie. A better system to get severely chronic patients better!).
In fact, not long ago, I once heard a marketing expert describe three pathways
past ANY recession: one, sell something different; two, sell to someone
different; and three, sell differently. The Johnson Method (2.0) incorporates
all three.
CASH PRACTICE? A PIPE DREAM?
Yes, I know that you have heard the “cash practice promise” before, maybe tried
it, maybe gotten bruised and bloodied, and, for one reason or another, think it’s
fool’s gold. Completely unrealistic. Won’t work in your area. Etc., etc.
I understand. But…
Virtually all attempts to create cash practices and to teach cash practice have
been applied to traditional chiropractic care. And that does not work. The patient
is not motivated enough….and more importantly, does not see you as being in “a
category of one”. The unique match my Method creates: a chronic-condition
patient in extreme need and already disappointed with other approaches
“matched” with a doctor with one-of-a-kind qualifications and therapies….this is
what moves cash-practice from unreasonable, impractical and
unsustainable to REAL. “Category-of-One” positioning is of critical importance.
My Method’s ability to support cash practice is PROVEN.
However, at the moment, there is still good insurance coverage and
reimbursement for this kind of advanced treatment, in some states, from some
carriers, and some of the doctors using my Method are choosing to accept
insurance patients and bill the insurance companies. But I devoutly believe this
will go away. If you remain dependent on billing insurance, at best, your income
will be cut by 35% to 50% by government and insurer imposed caps; at worst,
you may be handed a fixed price list everybody must adhere to as part of
Obama-health care. YOU NEED A PRACTICAL WAY OUT of the begging and
battling for reimbursement that you’ve come to accept as ‘normal’ – before your
fees are TOTALLY controlled and reduced and your income itself capped.
(DON’T STICK YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND ABOUT THIS!)
The other reason cash-practice has failed in the past is that, when applying it to
traditional chiropractic care and ordinary fallen-from-ladder, neck-pain-at-work
type patients has required a Super-Powerful Dynamo-Salesman to get results.
Everybody who’s ever taught cash practice can point to a few of these “champs”
as their success stories and “proof” – but it’s like pointing to Tiger Woods and
saying “See, YOU should be able to play every course at 10 under par too.”
Nonsense.
But with my Method, the patient coming to you has different expectations….a
different attitude….is better prepared in advance….sees you as in “a category of
one”…and has extreme need and motivation and even determination to get his or
her chronic, debilitating condition “cured” if at all possible. This alters the entire
“dynamic” of the relationship. Yes, an effective presentation and asking for a
decision and cash payment is required of you. But it occurs here in a very
different environment than trying to secure cash payment, and pre-payment, from
patients in the office for ordinary reasons, offered ordinary care. In those
circumstances, yes, cash practice is a “pipe dream”. But in the circumstances
The Johnson Method creates for you, it is reality. And, for the record, 90% of my
patents are fee-for-service, non-insurance, cash only BECAUSE I get them better
when every other doctor failed them!
Keep in mind, my practice is in Appleton, Wisconsin, population 72,000,
surrounded by farm country. Patients are happy to pay me a cash fee because, I
GET THEM BETTER! I HAVE ALWAYS SAID THAT IF YOU GET PATIENTS
BETTER THAT NO ONE ELSE CAN GET BETTER, YOU WILL MAKE A
PROFESSIONAL INCOME!!! We are literally the Lake Wobegon in Garrison
Keillor’s famous Prarie Home Companion radio broadcasts. And there are 103
other chiropractors in the surrounding area. Probably not an ideal spot to be
running one of the largest practices in the country but I am and I CAN show you
how to do it too! What you need to understand is that I am not some freak, some
super-human who arrived here from another planet…my Method makes this
possible for any doctor just as it does for me.
WHEN YOUR FOCUS IS ON CORRECTING
THE CHRONIC CONDITION PATIENT AND
GET THEM BETTER WHEN NO ONE ELSE
COULD…YOU DESERVE FINANCIAL SUCCESS
AND
SECURITY!
…but it is being taken away from you. Insurers’ reimbursement caps, numbers of
visits caps, arbitrary rejections or discounting of claims is just the beginning.
Whatever form the Obama takeover and nationalization of health care ultimately
takes, one thing is sure: it must suppress consumer use of non-MD care, and it
will “squeeze” non-MD’s even worse than MD’s. You are going to be dictated
to as never before. Treated worse than 3rd class citizens in the health care
world. Right now, fewer and fewer chiropractors can make traditional practice
provide them with top incomes and security. The average chiropractor’s income
has decreased each of the past 3 years. (You are not alone.) And that’s before
the coming wave of government interference.
If you continue with a traditional practice
– trying to make it better or more
profitable while staying inside the box of a
traditional practice, you’d better get
comfortable with more work for less money,
more anxiety about new patients, and being
the poorest paid of all health care
professionals.
Depending on what type of practice you would
like, you need a solid basis for collecting
case fees, monthly fees or a solid fee per
visit……a path to patients able and willing
to pay such fees because YOU get them better
when no one else could help
them…neurologically and metabolically-based,
sophisticated, comprehensive treatments for
specific, severe and chronic conditions…and
an entirely new, NON-traditional
practice/business model. In other words,
INCREASE your clinical skills and you will
INCREASE your practice! THAT is the only way
to increase your practice!
Within this NEW framework, you can apply
your knowledge, passion, care for people,
communication skills, and time in a way that
is of great benefit to patients and enables
you to enjoy the top professional income and

Now I would like to share my personal story. It is what has brought me
here, to this discussion with you. And even though I am going to let you
“test drive” my Method by completing the entire 6-month Program risk-free, I
still think you should know me personally. So, here goes…
I live in Appleton, Wisconsin with my wife of 33 years, Michele, and my five
children, Joe, age 29 (MIT grad, now living in Boston, MA), Kate, 27 (Boston U.
grad, teaching in Japan), Mary, 25 (University of WI-Madison grad, teaching in
Japan), Jens, 22 (University of WI-Madison), and Jake, age 11 (pretty much his
world and we live in it). My practice is located here too. While a lot of my patients
are local, patients also routinely drive here from 40 to 120 miles away, and some
even fly in from all over the country. The practice itself is unique, consuming all

In 2004, I was dead broke, and flat on my back in bed from pending bankruptcy,
and, I’m a bit embarrassed to admit, in acute depression. I went days without
showering or dressing, wandering about in my pajamas like Howard Hughes
(without his money), hiding from the world and my own reality. I had built up a
very successful three clinic operation, but I hadn’t yet learned how to be a good
businessman, and with the pressures of practicing, running from one clinic to
another, and a family with five kids, I turned the checkbook and finances over to
a business manager. As Woody Allen’s joke goes, he managed the money until
there was no money left to manage. He stole most of it, put me a million dollars
in debt, left unpaid taxes, a train wreck. After the crash, and a bankruptcy I fought
against for two long years, I collapsed. I was mentally, emotionally and physically
drained. I barely got out of bed for three months. My wife said I had to do
something or she and the kids were leaving! I worked on me first, and started
exercising and using oxygen therapy. One of the reasons I’m so passionate
about oxygen therapy is that I experienced firsthand how it just about brought me
back from the dead. Next I went to work on building a new, better, stronger
practice, and since I was starting over from scratch, I decided to question
everything about the traditional model….to be as visionary as possible about the
future….and wound up creating an entirely different type of practice led by a
chiropractor, NOT a normal chiropractic practice – and I think that’s a very
important statement and idea. Of course, I’m not proud of the failure, but I am
proud of the recovery, and of what came from it.
Why do I tell you all this? Well, I think you should know the history behind this.
Know that I’ve been through my share of tough times and know how to make
success happen despite difficulties. I and my Method have been tested under
fire. Also, I prefer being an open book. To be an effective coach, I believe you
need to be authentic. The “real-deal” so to speak…
I’m sure you don’t want exactly the same things from practice that I do. You may
not, for example, have ambition for as big a practice or income as mine. You may
be more interested in a stable, secure but more modest income, and working
less than I do or having less responsibility than I do. I’m sure, though, that our
shared ambitions are to be able to practice as we see fit, safe from threats and
outside interference…to be well-respected and well-compensated as
doctors…and to make a real difference in patients’ lives. My Method can
guarantee that for you. IF I DIDN’T HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT, well, I wouldn’t
be doing this at all. I don’t need your money at all, and it’s pretty obvious our
profession doesn’t need another “wind-bag” running around selling the same-old
“stuff” in a new wrapper, doesn’t need another “me-too” coaching program or
seminar. There’s plenty of all that! I am looking for the TOP 10% of the
profession. The TOP 10% that want to provide exceptional care to their
patients and as a direct result…collect professional case fees. I PROMISE
YOU a very different, very open and frank and authentic, and much more resultsfocused experience than you’ve ever had with any other consultant, coach or
mentor! – or your money back!
INVESTMENT INFORMATION
I’m sure you’ve begun wondering about the ‘cost.’
With 20-20 hindsight, I’d have paid a small fortune had there been anybody to
hand me this “blueprint” when I started re-making my practice from traditional
chiropractic, pay per visit, insurance controlled….to this, neurologically-based,
multi-therapy, for chronic patients, cash practice. There wasn’t. So I got here by a
massive amount of trial-and-error, spending nearly a half million dollars along the
way. There’s an investment of blood, sweat and money in this I know hardly any
other doctor would have the determination to make.
Experts in the coaching, consulting and publishing businesses and
knowledgeable about the chiropractic profession – including practice
management consultants – have marveled at what I’m providing and how little I
am charging to put it to work for doctors. I have been repeatedly told I should be
delivering this as a practice management-type program…stretched out over 2 or
even 3 years….with a fee of $30,000.00 or even more. Others have advised an
up-front fee plus a “percentage above base” arrangement, where I take from 30%
to 50% of the increase in a participating doctor’s practice for several years. I
considered all that carefully. And I rejected it.
My wife’s counsel, confirming my own instincts about this, won out. She said,
“We are already wealthy. (She should know. She keeps the books!) Your
Method in our own practice has been very good to us. There is no reason to be
greedy about this or to demand such high fees that only a small number of
doctors can benefit. We can be fair, even generous about this. Besides, you are
more interested in coaching people to success in a new kind of practice than
anything, so why put too high a barrier in the way?”
So, I think you are going to be very pleased and surprised at the modest fee I
ask. From my initial group of 149 doctors, my “pioneers”, who I’ve worked with
beginning in 2006 to present, more than 80% of them have had significant
improvements in income, collections and the less tangible but very important
‘quality of practice life.’ (Unfortunately, some people say they want but never
follow-through.) Of the 80%, more than half have or are en-route to completely

a fundamentally flawed and severely handicapped business model, you are

such fantastical ideas make it all your fault and have you pay for the privilege of
being made to feel like a failure, because they have nothing more concrete to
peddle; they have no real answer to the reality of chiropractic practice today….as
