Declaration
Behind Closed Doors’ (BCD) Volunteer Training is the third phase of the application process to become a
volunteer with our agency. (First - application, second – interview). During Volunteer Training you will learn
about our agency’s philosophy and approach to working with survivors of domestic abuse.
Your attendance on the Volunteer Training programme does not guarantee placement in a volunteer position.
Training provides an opportunity to ensure that your time will be well spent through volunteer work with BCD.
Throughout training, we’ll be assessing whether there is a good fit between you and BCD, and we’d like you
to be assessing this too. We respect your right to decide that BCD may not be the place for you and we ask
that you respect our right to make the same determination.
We ask, in signing this declaration, that you also accept that BCD have the right and responsibility to deny
your application because of violent history; attitudes, behaviours or beliefs that run contrary to the mission
and values of BCD.
We also take our duty of care for potential Volunteers very seriously. We know that the training and
subsequent support to vulnerable victims of domestic abuse is emotionally challenging and for this
reason we require all applicants to confirm that they have not been in an abusive relationship or
accessed support from any organisation for domestic abuse related issues in the two years prior to
application.
If selected, I undertake to work under the direction of the Management Team and to participate fully in the
programmes of training and additional support. If selected I will actively support the values, vision and
mission of Behind Closed Doors.
I confirm I have not been in an abusive relationship, or sought support for domestic abuse from any
organisation, in the previous two years.
I declare that, to the best of my knowledge and belief, the information provided to Behind Closed Doors is
correct and I will advise Behind Closed Doors of any material changes to this information during training
and/or in volunteering placement.
