Professional Setup Guide
1 Introduction
This guide describes how to set up the Lympha Press Optimal™ device for
delivery to a patient according to physician's prescription, or for operation in a
clinic where there is a need to change treatment parameters for multiple users.
The guide explains how to set pressure and modes using either Lympha Press
Optimal™ software or the control unit keypad.
2 Programming via PC Connection
Lympha Press Optimal™ can be programmed using the Lympha Press Optimal™
software provided with the Optimal™ Setup package.
You will need to connect the device to a PC using the USB cable provided with the
Lympha Press Optimal™ Setup package.
Use PC programming to:
• Set the pressure in each cell individually (12-Zone Mode).
• Set the pressure in four zones of three cells each (4-Zone Mode).
• Set the pressure gradient between cells or zones.
• Select the Treatment Type.
• See how an Optimal device is currently programmed.
• Save treatment programs for future use. You can add comments for future
reference.
• Set up an Optimal device with a saved treatment program.
You may set a password to limit access to this software.
2.1 Recommended System Requirements
□ Windows XP SP-2 or Windows Vista
□ 100 MB of free disk space
□ 1 GB of RAM
Software may work properly on systems that do not meet all the recommended
requirements.

2.2 Programming Lympha Press Optimal™ using a PC
1. Install the Lympha Press Optimal™ software on your PC.
Do not connect the device to the PC until software installation is complete.
2. Connect the device using the USB cable provided. The USB port is located
on the right side of the device panel (see Figure 1).

2.3 About the Pressure Definition Modes
Lympha Press Optimal™ offers two formats for programming the pressure and
gradient:

Professional Setup Guide
□ 12-Zone Mode: enables setting the pressure and gradient in each of the 12
cells individually (see Figure 4). This allows you to "fine tune" the
compression and gradient to each patient's individual needs.
□ 4-Zone Mode: enables setting the pressure and gradient in four zones of
three cells each (see Figure 5). This mode can also be programmed using
the device keypad.
1. First, select the Pressure Definition Mode (see Figure 6).
The programming screen will change to reflect your selection (see Figure 4
and Figure 5).
2. Select the Treatment Type (see Figure 6).
3. Set the pressure for each cell using one of the following methods:
• Drag the ◄ on the

• Click the up or down
and then type the required
in the
Tip:
You can quickly increase the overall pressure by dragging up ◄ the
most proximal cell or quickly decrease the overall pressure by
dragging down ◄ the most distal cell.
Note:
The Lympha Press Optimal™ will not allow setting a reverse
gradient. You will note that increasing/decreasing pressure in one cell
will increase/decrease the pressure in the adjacent cells when
necessary to prevent a reverse gradient.
Note for 4-Zone Mode:
The pressure indicated on the screen is the pressure of the first cell in
the zone. Within each zone, there is a gradient of 1 mmHg between
each cell. The second cell's pressure will be 1 mmHg lower than the
first cell. The third cell's pressure will be 2 mmHg lower than the first
cell. The device will not allow less than a 5 mmHg gradient between
zones.

.
5. The following dialog box opens, displaying the new program you just
edited and comparing it to the program currently in the device.
If this is OK, click Send To Device.

8. Click Save.
The treatment program file is saved to your PC, and the new treatment
program is sent to the device.
Note:
The new treatment program will be sent to the device only if the
treatment program file is successfully saved to your PC.
3 Programming via Device Keypad
Programming via device keypad is password protected using a fixed password
installed at the factory.
Only the 4-Zone Mode can be programmed using the device keypad (see Section
2.3 - About the Pressure Definition Modes). Programming the device using the
keypad will immediately default the device settings to 4-Zone Mode. 12-Zone
gradient can be reinstated only by using the PC software program.
Note:
You cannot use the keypad to program the pressure in each of the 12
cells or the gradient between each cell individually. For this, you must
use the PC software program.
Use programming via device keypad to:
• Set the pressure in four zones of three cells each (4-Zone Mode).
• Set the pressure gradient between each of the four zones (the gradient within
each zone will be 1 mmHg per cell).
• Select the Treatment Type.
3.1 How to Program the Lympha Press Optimal™ Manually
Using the Device Keypad
1. Press and hold Select
and
simultaneously for 5 seconds.
You will be prompted to enter a password.
2. Enter the password by pressing Pressure
four times.
3. If the device is currently in 4-Zone Mode, you can now set the treatment
program. Proceed to Step 4.
• If the device is currently in 12-Zone Mode, you will be prompted to
switch to 4-Zone Mode. (Remember, keypad programming can be done
only in 4-Zone Mode.)

6. Remember that the device internal safety mechanism prevents setting a
reverse gradient. In 4-Zone Mode, the minimal pressure difference between
zones must be 5 mmHg. If you attempt to decrease a distal-zone pressure or
increase a proximal-zone pressure within this 5-mmHg gradient, the device
will not respond.
To avoid this, always increase the pressure starting at the most distal zone,
and decrease the pressure starting at the most proximal zone. You may
have to toggle back and forth between the zones until the required pressures
have been set.
