Drawing and Design Fundamentals By: Thomas Gjervik 8.1 http://www.find3dprinter.com/wpcontent/uploads/2013/03/3d Criterion A: Inquiry and Analysis A man named Rex Tillerson came up to me saying he wants to build a beach house in New Orleans because his old beach house in Florida exploded. He started to list the things he wanted Hurricane sustainable foundation, 2 story house filled with glass windows that are sound proof, I also want this house to be multi purpose. When it would be done he would be super duped happy because then he can leave the chaos in Dallas. Research needed Isometric: Is a way to draw a 3D image Priority 1 3D Sketch Up: Is a 2 software that is used to make the 3D image to print in a 3D way Orthographic: Is a way to make 3 views in 2D form. 3 Plan view: is really just a bird’s eye view like taking of the roof of a house or another object. 4 Justification It is important because when you make your 3D sketch up you will need to know how to make a 3D image. This I important as well because it is used to put your drawing in a computer to print and make better Sources My past knowledge. Mr. Evans Miguel http://www.sketchup.com Primary/Secondary Primary Secondary Orthographic is not as important because is a http://www.technologystudent.com Secondary longer and more complicated to get correct then the others. This is the least http://www.technologystudent.com Secondary important because for 3D you need it to be in 3D but here you you have a 2D image from above Isometric Isometric is 3D drawing that can help you for normal drawing but will make it 3D. Isometric drawing is used for drawing 3D images for blueprints and product design. What you need to do is draw a crow’s foot. Then you need to draw the lines to make the 3D effect by drawing all the lines in parallel line if you don’t it will look weird. Isometric drawing is good because when you use it for a blueprint then you can see different angles of the structure. It is also good for showing detail around the whole object not just the 2D perspective and you get a better feeling of how big or long or wide the object is. It is bad because it is pretty difficult to understand the drawing and take time to draw it. It is also bad because sometime when you draw the object you might draw a perspective you didn’t want to draw then it looks weird. I like it because you can see different perspectives on the drawing. I also like it because I can draw thing I could never do without it because you can use it a guide for your drawing. I dislike it because it is difficult to draw and understand, because sometime you draw a side that you don’t want to draw. Isometric I feel has no way of getting the perspective you want so that is also one way it is bad http://hinsdale86.org/staff/mgawlik/pre-eng1/Projects/images/isometric.gif Orthographic Orthographic drawing is a three-dimensional object in two dimensions. It is used for car designers to get different views of the car. If you were to use it you would need to first split the page into 4 parts and draw a 45-degree line on the bottom right part. After that you’d want to draw one perspective you want to star with in the top right corner box (you would want to first draw the side view). Then you would want to draw all the line that goes vertical in the box that is below. Then you want to draw the horizontal lines that you just drew horizontally and when they touch the diagonal you want to draw the line vertically after that you want to draw the horizontal line horizontally that was in the first box. Orthographic is good because you know what you are going to draw and it is good for getting the different perspectives you need. It is bad because you need to be really precise with the line and measurements if not you will get a weird looking image. I like it because I can understand it very well and I get a good sense of how the image looks. I dislike it because it is fairly complicated drawing because you can get some things wrong and then you will have problems with your drawing. http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints-depot/cars/ford/ford-mustang.gif Plan View Plan view is a view of an object as projected onto a horizontal plane. Plan view is used for building because you can see the top view or “birds eye view” of a building car or something else. To do it you can get the out side of a building in the plan view the draw in the walls or you can just ask the people who made your house to get the plan view form them. It is good because you get the “overview” of the house. It is also good because If you need to find your way around the house. It is bad because you only get the plan view not the other views so you can’t see. I like it because I can see a view I would not normally see because I am not a bird. I dislike it because I can’t see other views of the object. http://verterradesign.com/imagePort/Pl an-View-smll.jpg 3D Sketch Up 3D sketch up design is a program used to make 3D images like house, cars and planes. To use it you need to download it and find out how to use it (I don’t know how) It is good because you can make objects and play around how to use it to figure out what is cool. It is also good because you can make many things. It is bad because it is complicated and difficult to understand so far from my understandings from looking at a friend. I like it because there is so much to do when you understand it. I dislike it because it takes a long time to understand (I really hope not). https://www.google.com/search?q=%23d+sketch+up&espv=2&biw=927&bih=854&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoA WoVChMI95ik0fnrxwIVRm8UCh1_sg90#tbm=isch&q=3d+sketch+uplogo I have learned a lot for this unit. I learned that there is a lot of ways to draw things not just the simple 2D way. I learned things like isometric, orthographic, plan view and 3D sketch up. I learned that isometric is a 3d perspective and that it is used for building and manufacturing. Orthographic are 3 drawings with different perfectives and that they are the sides that you can find in 3D drawing. I’ve learned that in plan view is just really a birds eye view and 3D sketch up design is a software not a tequnique to draw, it is important because then you can get that image that you made into 3D printer for example. That is really want I learned from that and the most thing I learned was the 3D sketch up design. Source analysis: "3D for Everyone." 3D for Everyone. Web. 17 Sept. 2015. <http://www.sketchup.com>. Criterion B: Developing Ideas By: Thomas Gjervik FORM (SHAPE, SIZE, DIMENSIONS, WEIGHT ETC) FUNCTION (HOW IT WORKS OR IS CONSTRUCTED) SPECIFICATIONS JUSTIFICATION (WRITE AS A SENTENCE) (WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT) THE TOTAL FLOOR AREA FOR THE HOUSE WILL NOT EXCEED 1000M2 The floor area for the house will not exceed 2000m2. THE SITE WHERE THE HOUSE WILL BE LOCATED HAS A LIMITED SPACE, AND THEREFORE THE HOUSE DIMENSIONS CANNOT EXCEED THIS SIZE. The house is located in a neighborhood so will have little room for error when building the house. TESTING METHOD (HOW ARE YOU GOING TO KNOW YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL?) THE TOTAL FLOOR AREA OF THE FINAL DESIGN CAN BE CALCULATED AND TESTED AGAINST THIS SPECIFICATION To prevent for exceeding the area limit that the house has I would need to be built perfectly. The house will not exceed 1 floor. The neighborhood where the house is going to be located allows only 1 story house for ecological reasons. The house will not be built over the 1 story. The house will be a rectangle shape. The house will have to be in a rectangle shape because the neighborhood has specifications to be symmetrical around the whole compound. The house will fit in the space that has been bought to fit the rectangle shape space. THE HOUSE WILL BE PARTLY HEATED ON THE GROUND FLOOR BY USING A SOLAR “HEAT SINK” LOCATED IN THE GARDEN. A HEAT SINK IS A RELIABLE AND COST EFFECTIVE METHOD OF HEATING A HOUSE, AND REDUCES THE HOUSES RELIANCE ON EXTERNAL “SERVICES” AND REDUCES ITS ECOLOGICAL IMPACT. The solar panels will help the environment and will not get power outages because it is directly connected to the house. THIS WILL BE REPRESENTED AND PROPERLY ANNOTATED IN THE FINAL DESIGN. The house will be power by solar panels covering the roof. I will represent this method properly in my design. AESTHETICS (WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, COLOUR, MATERIALS, TEXTURE ETC) The house will be heated by solar water heating which will also be on the roof. The solar water heating is a good way to heat the house because it is close to the house and will get the maximum heat that it will give. I will represent this method properly in my design. The house will be light up by the LED light that are powered by the solar panels. The LED light are my option for the house because it is cost efficient and are versatile and helping the environment by using less energy. I will represent this method properly in my design. THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE WILL BE DECORATED ON THE OUTSIDE TO BE SYMPATHETIC TO ITS SURROUNDINGS, AND USE AS VERITY OF NATURAL MATERIALS IN ITS CONSTRUCTION. Outside of the house will have a water feature on the outside as well a little on the inside. THIS WILL MINIMISE ITS IMPACT ON THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT, AND WHEREVER POSSIBLE LOCALLY SOURCED BUILDING MATERIALS WILL BE USED TO INCREASE THE BUILDINGS ECOLOGICAL AND SUSTAINABLE FOOTPRINT. This will help the houses apparel to people to buy the house so when I sell it I will get the dough. THE TYPE AND SOURCE LOCATION WILL BE ANNOTATED ON THE FINAL DESIGN. The main color inside will have dark colors like brown. On the outside I will be grey. The colors used will absorb it so the solar panels and water heating will get more sun. I can teat this by putting it in the sun. The man material will be clay because it is a good insulator. The material will cut down the use of cooling and heating because the cool or heat will not escape. This will show when it has a heat or cooling in it. I will show it by putting water in it and will go around and around. I chose my house A because I felt it was really what I wanted and what I thought looked the best out of the three. I used all of my specifications that I have. The floor area for the house will not exceed 2000m2. The house will not exceed 1 floor. The house will be a rectangle shape. The house will be power by solar panels covering the roof. The house will be heated by solar water heating which will also be on the roof. The house will be light up by the LED light that are powered by the solar panels. Outside of the house will have a water feature on the outside as well a little on the inside. The main color inside will have dark colors like brown. On the outside I will be grey. The man material will be clay because it is a good insulator. I put an X because it is not in a rectangle shape it is in an octagon shape. Solar Panels Solar panels are eco-friendly because they use the rays from the sun to power your home. It works by the Rays from the sun to boil a large tank full of water to then make that water steam then power a generator to then make electricity. Solar panels are good because it is renewable, abundant, and sustainable, Environmentally Friendly, Good Availability, Reduces Electricity Costs, Many Applications, Shared Solar Silent Financial Support from Government/State Low Maintenance and Technology is Improving. It is bad because it is Expensive, Intermittent; Energy Storage is Expensive, Associated with Pollution, Exotic Materials, and Requires Space https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CAYQjB1qFQoTCMinzOKCnMgCFQtcFAodrkIOSg&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F Solar_power_in_the_United_States&psig=AFQjCNFTJOPKXDxYAFKXk63ZE1Vqb8TPqw&ust=1443608447268317 Straw-bale construction Straw bale construction is a building method that uses bales of straw as structural elements, building insulation, or both. This construction method is commonly used in natural building or “brown” construction projects. Research has shown that straw-bale construction is a sustainable method for building, from the standpoint of both materials energy needed for heating and cooling. Advantages of straw-bale construction over conventional building systems include the renewable nature of straw, cost, easy availability, and naturally fireretardant and high insulation value. Disadvantages include susceptibility to rot, difficulty of obtaining insurance coverage, and high space requirements for the straw itself. Energy efficient light bulbs Energy efficient light bulbs are light bulbs that use LED or CFL bulbs revolutionized energy-efficient lighting. CFLs are simply miniature versions of full-sized fluorescents. They screw into standard lamp sockets, and give off light that looks similar to the common incandescent bulbs - not like the fluorescent lighting we associate with factories and schools. LEDs are small, very efficient solid bulbs. New LED bulbs are grouped in clusters with diffuser lenses, which have broadened the applications for LED use in the home. LED technology is advancing rapidly, with many new bulb styles available. Initially more expensive than CFLs, LEDs bring more value since they last longer. Also, the price of LED bulbs is going down each year as the manufacturing technology continues to improve. LED light bulbs are long lasting, durable, cool, mercury free, more efficient, cost efficient, light for remote areas and portable generators. Led light bulbs are cost to install but after is then cheaper. http://eartheasy.com/live_energyeff_lighting.htm#led Solar water heating Solar water heating (SWH) is the conversion of sunlight into renewable energy for water heating using a solar thermal collector. Pros is it uses the free energy of the sun to heat your water, lower monthly electric (or gas) utility bills, Great for climates that receive a lot of sunshine and Federal tax credits help lower upfront cost, and there are often local incentives that also help offset part of the initial investment Cons are Tank takes up more space than tankless units, but comparable to (or slightly larger than) "normal" tank type units, Higher up front cost for equipment & installation, May not have as great of performance in climates that do not receive a lot of sunshine, Tank can produce a significant amount of heat, so its location will need to be planned accordingly, More equipment = more maintenance. http://www.proudgreenhome.com/blogs/pros-and-cons-of-solar-water-heaters/ Recycling bin Recycling is a process to convert waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from land filling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to plastic production. Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" waste hierarchy. Pro for recycling are protects environment, reduces energy consumption, reduces pollution, reduces global warming, conserves natural resources, create green jobs. Cons for recycling are not are always cost efficient and high initial cost. http://www.conserve-energy-future.com/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-recycling.ph
