In the month of December, we talked about winter animals and of course Christmas. With our winter animals theme we made penguins and polar bear art projects. We also read storied about winter animals and learned some finger plays as well. The kids had a lot of fun making different Christmas art projects. They got to decorate the Christmas tree, we made reindeer antlers, and we also played with jingle bells and Rudolph noses. Due to the cold we were not able to go outside but no worries, we brought some snow inside for the children to play with! We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. In January we will be learning about snow, more winter animals and all things winter. Please continue to bring winter clothes in every day as we will be trying to make it outside to play whenever the weather allows! Happy Birthday Owen & Kara The first week in December we learned about the color red. The children made red paper collages and red bows. We also did a science experiment to turned water red! We explored red crayons, markers, paint and paper. Red is a popular color with young children for this month. Holiday decorations was our next theme for the month. We have had fun making bells, marble painting candy canes and making the Christmas presents for mom and dad! The favorite song to dance to is “Jingle Bells” and “Let’s All Do A Little Clapping.” Christmas was the theme for the third week of December. The children recognize who Santa is. Santa was in the thoughts and sentences of every child. The children glued cotton onto Santa’s beard and did their favorite finger play, “Where Is Santa?” We also listened to a lot of Christmas music and read a lot of Christmas books. Books! Reading is really important. Books help children develop vital language skills. Reading can open up new words and enrich children’s lives. Reading can also enhance children’s social skill. Please take the time to read to your child. What we learned in December: Letters: J, K & L January Themes: Number: 4 White & Snow Games Shape: Star Winter Clothing Color: Red Snowmen & Snowflakes Cold Weather Animals BIRTHDAYS Heidi 3rd Ethan M. 10th Molly 8th Bentley 18th Dayton 17th Camden 31st Hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season. We thank you all for your gifts and kindness. We have an exciting new year ahead of us to grow and learn. We will learn about weather, insects, science, and dental health this month. We will be continuing working on recognizing our names, our ABC’s, 123’s, colors, and shapes. We will also start doing our evaluations on the children that will be put into their portfolios. Just a reminder that the children need to have a winter coat, snow pants, boots, hats and mittens at school as we will and do go outside unless it is colder than 0 degrees. Also, they need to bring shoes to change into after being outside as their boots stay by their cubbies. Thank you for all you do to help us have a wonderful classroom. Thank you, Teresa & Jocelyn
