Live Safe Smoke Detector Program Operation Safety Net Carbon

Live Safe Smoke
Detector Program
Smoke Detectors Save Lives
An inexpensive smoke detector
with new batteries may save
your life in case of a fire.
A simple smoke detector
alert will warn you of a
fire so you can get out of
the house alive. To stress the
importance of working smoke detectors, the
Fairborn Fire Department implemented the
Live Safe Smoke Detector Program with the
assistance of Handyman ACE Hardware and
Sam’s Club.
How You Can Register
To register for the program, call the Fairborn
Fire Department Life Safety Division at
754-3084 or the Fairborn Senior Center at
878-4141. Residents can also register at any
fire station. The program is open to Fairborn
residents, only. The elderly and parents with
small children will be given first priority, while
supplies last.

Operation Safety Net
A telephone check-in program for seniors
Imagine living alone without a relative or friend to
check on your well-being. Imagine slipping in the
kitchen and not being able to reach the telephone to
call for help.
With that in mind, the Fairborn Fire Department
implemented a telephone check in program,
Operation Safety Net, to keep in touch with
seniors who live alone.
How You Can Register
To register for this program, call the Fairborn Fire
Department at 754-3111.
During the registration process, you must provide
a variety of emergency information including:
your name, address, age, medication, family
doctor, hospital preference, and next of kin. This
information is strictly confidential and will only be
used for an emergency.
How the Check In Process Works
After you have registered, you will call 754-3111
daily during a designated time. The telephone
is manned by Fire Department volunteers. A
voice mail telephone feature allows you to leave
a message if you’re leaving home prior to your
designated call time.
When you check in, your call is recorded on a
master list. At the end of the call in time, a volunteer
will call you if you did not check in. If you can’t be
reached by telephone, fire personnel will visit your
home to check on your safety.
In case of a medical emergency,
call 9-1-1 immeditaely.
Carbon Monoxide
Detector Program
CO Detectors Save Lives
During the winter months when the furnace is
running almost nonstop, there is an odorless,
colorless, tasteless and potentially hazardous
gas that can invade your home - carbon
monoxide (CO). The gas can be deadly in a
closed, tightly-insulated area. An inexpensive
carbon monoxide detector may
save your life by alerting you if
the gas is present in your home.
To stress the importance of CO
detectors, the Fairborn Fire
Department also implemented
the Live Safe Carbon Monoxide
Detector Program.
Warning Signs of CO Poisoning
Low levels of CO can cause headaches, nausea,
fatigue, dizziness, confusion and irritability.
High levels of long exposure to CO could
cause vomiting, loss of consciousness and,
eventually, death. If you suspect CO poisoning,
get everyone out of the house immediately and
call 9-1-1.
How You Can Register
To register for the Carbon Monoxide program,
call the Fairborn Fire Department Life Safety
Division at 754-3084 or the Fairborn Senior
Center at 878-4141. Residents can also register
at any fire station. The program is open to
Fairborn residents. The elderly and parents with
small children will be given first priority, while
supplies last.
Hyper-Reach
Emergency Notification
fairborn
Programs for
citizens:
What is Hyper-Reach
Hyper-Reach is a notification system used
by the City of Fairborn to notify citizens
about any important information, which
requires timely dispersal. All land line
phones in Fairborn are automatically listed
to receive calls.
• Live Safe Smoke
Detector Program
• Carbon Monoxide
Detector Program
• Operation Safety
Net
• Hyper-Reach
Benefits to Hyper-Reach
An important benefit of this system is the
automatic emergency notification from
the National Weather Service in the event
of severe or threatening weather to a
particular area.
In addition, the City can use the
system’s ‘accu-reach’ program to send
non-emergency messages to residents.
Information from water boil advisories to
issues regarding the city can easily be sent
keeping residents ‘in the know’.
Other Ways to be Notified
In addition to land line notifications,
citizens of Fairborn can sign up to receive
a call and/or text message on their cell
phones as well as receive e-mail alerts. In
order to register your e-mail address and
cell phone, visit www.hyper-reach.com/
