Selectalocationforthehosesealnearthetoprimofthebarrelkeepinginmindthattheoverflowhosewillneed
toextenddownthesideofthebarreltodispensewaterintoastormdrainorawayfromthebuildingsfoundation.
Suggestionsforlinking2ormorerainbarrelsfromtoprimtotoprim:

Preferred:fittheoverflowhoseonthelastbarrelintheseries.
Ifthedrainhoseisnotfittedtothelastrainbarrelintheseries;theoverflowhosemustbehigherthan
thelevelofthelinkinghosetoallowwatertofilllinkedbarrels
Locatingthesealforbottomlinkedbarrels:

Theoverflowhoseshouldbeaddedtothelowerofthe2barrels,theleveloftheoverflowhoseinletwill
dictatethe“full”levelforbothbarrels.
Markthecenterfordrillingthehosesealholeatleast2”(50mm)belowthetoprimofthebarrelonasmooth
surfacefreeoffeaturesthatmayimpededrillingorfittingtheseal.
Thebottomofthesealwilldeterminethenew“FULL”waterlevelintherainbarrel.
Checkbeforedrilling:centerthesealoverthemarktomakesurethattheflangewillrestonthebarrelwithout
interference,relocatethemarkifneeded.
Note:RiskofElectrocution!Ifthebarrelisalreadyinuse,makesuretodrainthewateratleast6”(150mm)below
theoutlettobedrilledanddonotletdrillorcordcomeincontactwithwater.
Drilla1.5”holeusingtheholesawincluded.Holdthedrillfirmlywithbothhands.Removetheplasticcutoutfrom
thesawcupafterdrilling.
Insertthehosesealintotheholeinthebarrelandpressuntiltheflangesitsflatagainstthesurfaceofthebarrel.
Tip:Thesealcanbecrimpedintoa“U”tomakeinsertioneasier.
Pressthecuffendofthehoseintothesealbeingcarefulnottocrimpthecuffasthiscouldcausealeak
Tip:Usesoapywaterorhandlotiononthehosecufftoreducefrictionbetweenthesealandhose.
Extendthehosetodispensewatertoastormdrain,ortoagradedsurfaceleadingawayfromthehomes
foundation.Tip:drainoverflowwaterintoa5-gallonbucketorwateringcanforquickwateringchoirs.
Tip:Considerlinking2ormorebarrelsinseriestocatchadditionalrainwaterusinganEarthMindedLinkingKit.
Theoverflowhosecanbefittedtothelastbarrelintheseriesifallbarrelsareonthesamelevel.
Removal:
Wedonotrecommendremovingthehosefromtheseal.Gentlycollapsetheaccordionhosetoshortenthelength
forstorage.Ifthehosemustberemoved,holdthehosenearthesealandgentlywigglethehosewhilepullingout.
Donotpullontheaccordionsectionasitcoulddamagethehose.

Checkthatnopointonthehoseishigherthantheoutletonthebarrel.
Ifthevolumeofwaterenteringthebarrelisgreaterthanthecapacityofthehose,anadditionaloverflow
hosemaybeneeded.
