Tactix Game Rules For 2-4 players In Tactix, you will need to make good financial decisions while earning, spending and saving money. You will need to try to win the bonuses and avoid the penalties as you play. Printed Components Other Components One Game Board 30 Expense Cards, 30 Income Cards, 30 Choice Cards 25 Fun Tokens and 25 Purchase Tokens * Four Player Markers * Four Monthly Transactions Sheets: June, July, August, September A Personal Cash Book for each player A Personal Cash Statement for each player (optional) Pencils or pens Two dice * If you prefer, use game pieces from other games you have on hand rather than printing the Markers. Goal Players move around the Game Board and encounter various Expense, Income and Choice events which provide opportunities to gain (or lose!) Fun and Purchase Tokens. Players also work their way through a series of common Monthly Transactions, and record these together with the effects of their choices and decisions onto a Personal Cash Book. The game ends when all players have completed the transactions for the month, and at least one player has collected five fun and five purchase tokens. Any players with the required tokens score a bonus $50 for their Cash Book, and all others deduct $5 for each Token they are short of. The player with the highest Cash Book balance (and correct accounting) is the winner! Set Up 1. Shuffle the three card piles (Expense, Income & Choice Cards) and place them on the Game Board. 2. Place the Fun Tokens and Purchase Tokens by the Game Board. 3. Choose one of the Monthly Transaction Sheets: June, July, August or September. This will be the month used for your game, and shows the transactions that every player will need to record. Choose a First Player (by agreement or highest dice roll). Give them the Monthly Transaction sheet. 4. Give each player a Personal Cash Book, a pencil and a Player Marker. The Marker should be placed on the Start space of the Game Board. Note: Cash Books should always be kept in view of all players, and can be checked by any player at any time, either to ensure accuracy or to assist in planning their own strategy. (3) (4) 1 (1) (2) (4) Game Play Step 1 The First Player reads out the first item on the Monthly Transactions sheet. All players record the effect in their Personal Cash Book, adjusting their personal balance to reflect the transaction. Example: A player’s current balance is $100. The transaction reads “Purchase some accessories at the market. $5 (Clothing)”. It would be entered as follows: TRANSACTION Clothing INCOME EXPENSE $5 BALANCE $95 Step 2 Beginning with the First Player, each player rolls one die and moves their Player Marker that many spaces on the Game Board track. They then pick up the relevant Card for the space they land on: Income, Expense or Choice. Choice Cards will give that player options from which they must choose. These will be trade-offs between income, savings, Fun Tokens and Purchase Tokens. Step 3 After picking up a Card, that player records the Card effect in their Personal Cash Book (using the same convention as in Step 1) and then returns the Card to the bottom of its pile. Note: If a Card tells a player to return a Token and they do not have any, they should keep the Card in front of them until they collect a Token. Then they must return both the Card and the Token. Note: A Choice Card may generate two entries in the player’s Cash Book: for instance, the player may receive income, and then choose to spend that money on a purchase. Example: A player’s current balance is $50. They draw a Choice Card that says “Mum gives you $10 for helping with her day-care children in the holidays. (Wages) You can save the $10 OR spend it on mini-golf and collect 2 fun tokens. (Entertainment)” The player chooses to spend the money, so it would be entered as follows: TRANSACTION Wages Entertainment INCOME $10 EXPENSE $10 BALANCE $60 $50 Step 4 If there are still transactions left on the Monthly Transactions sheet, return to Step 1 with the First Player reading out the next item on the Transaction sheet. Otherwise, if any player has five Fun Tokens and five Purchase Tokens, the game ends! See “Game End” over the page. If the end of the month is reached and no player has collected the required Tokens, keep playing but skip Step 1 - that is, there are no more monthly transactions, but players continue to roll and move until someone collects the required Tokens. Game End First, all players who have a positive balance in their Personal Cash Book receive 10% interest on that balance. They should record that transaction now. Then, all players who have five Fun Tokens and five Purchase Tokens receive a $50 bonus. Note: This will usually apply to only one player, but because all players complete step two before checking for the game end conditions, it is possible that more than one will claim the needed tokens in the same turn. Finally, all players must pay a $5 penalty for each Token they have not collected. The winner is the player with the highest balance, but they must have accurate accounting! Advanced Play For a more strategic game, use two dice. With this method a player will land on two spaces (and draw a Card for each space) but the player may choose which order to move their Marker. For instance, if they roll a 4 and a 3, they may move 4 squares and then 3, or 3 squares and then 4. Whichever they choose, they should make their first move, pick up the Card and enter its effect in their Cash Book, and then their second move, again picking up a card and entering its effect. If doubles are rolled, the player can decide to roll again, but must accept the second roll, even if it’s doubles again. For further flexibility, players can agree that moving backwards is also allowed. So in the example above, the player could either move forwards 3 then 4 or 4 then 3, or else move backwards 3 then 4 or 4 then 3. Additional Learning To find out where all their money went, players can use a Personal Cash Statement to transfer the transactions in their Cash Books into category totals. The Personal Cash Statement provides a cross-check of the players’ recording throughout the game. Instructions are provided in the Cash Statement file itself.
