Career education modules
Tempus CareerS 2nd Annual Conference,
University of Belgrade, 25-26 February 2014
According
to
our
graduates
survey
students do not have enough knowledge
concerning labour market:
-
how it works,
-
what they may expect when they
enter it,
-
what are the employers’ expectations,
-
who are the employers – where they
may look for a job,
-
what are their potential employers,
-
what is the condition of the economy
sector they want to apply.
What students do
not know?
Students do not have the skill of planning,
especially when it comes to themselves,
their goals are rather short term than
long term.
They do not know how to describe
themselves, what are their advantages
and their weaknesses, their interests,
important values. They do not know the
answer to the questions: what can I do?
What skills do I have?
What students do
not have?
The labour market changes very quickly, it
is much wider than it used to be (people
no longer work all their life for one
employer, a region they live in is no longer
the only possible area for job searching,
markets are opened in other regions, in
other countries across Europe and even
across the whole world.
What are the
characteristics of
labour market?
All this suggests what we possibly should
teach our students.
But there is one more important thing –
the needs analysis:
-
conducted regularly,
-
directed to wide range of students,
-
using modern technologies.
-
it should be combined with
employers’ needs analysis.

-
8 modules programme is limited to
particular group of students, however
the model is universal and should be
delivered to every student, regardless
field of study and as soon as possible
-
Whatever the programme we create it
needs constant evaluation and
updating.
