The Development of the Domain Name Space Milestones

1985 - 7 Internet first TLDs (.COM , .NET , .ORG , .EDU

1993 - NSI - Network Solutions Inc. takes the
responsibility to maintain the Domain name space

1998 - The US DoC establishes a non-profit
organization to manage the Internet domain name
space and IP addresses - later called ICANN - the

Afilias’ SunRise period
• Afilias will open its registry for the trade mark

After the SunRise conclusion , trade mark
owners will be able to challenge domain name
holders who registered the challenger’s trade
marked names through a special process.
After the completion of Sunrise , the public
