EGR CREW 2016 ERG-A-THON DATE: SATURDAY MARCH 19, 2016 GASLIGHT VILLAGE EGR On Saturday, March 19 , my Crew team will “Row in the Snow” or rain, or sunshine outdoors on “ERG”s for a combined 24 hours - roughly 1,237 miles (1,990 km) or 1,990,313 meters (like Grand Rapids to Disneyland!). This is a fundraising event. Rowers are trying to raise a minimum of $5,000 to help us buy a new boat, which is badly needed for the program. Please consider sponsoring us to help us reach our goal! All donations are tax deductible. h Q: What is an Erg-a-thon?! A: A fundraiser that utilizes ergometers (indoor rowing machines) to meet a long distance goal. This year every rower on our 50 member team will be rowing in an attempt to cover 2,000 miles. Q: What are you raising money for? A: Equipment! The program uses world class equipment to allow athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level possible. This equipment is continuously maintained to keep it in top working shape. However, all equipment has a finite lifetime and will be in need of replacement after enough years. Our team is desperately in need of singles and small racing and training boats. Rowers want to make an investment in our team that will last for years to come and our ErgAThon goal is $5,000 towards that end. Q: Can I donate a flat rate or do I have to sponsor you per mile? A: Certainly! We welcome either. Our goal is to row between 1,600-8,000 meters (1 to 5 miles) so a suggested “per mile” donation could be $5 or $10, etc, however any commitment is appreciated. Q: Can I come and watch you? A: Absolutely! We will be rowing during the festive “Irish Jig” race in Gaslight Village next to Jose Bubushka’s on Saturday, March 19 from 8 am to 1:00 pm. Please drop by & cheer us on or even grab an erg and try out rowing with us! th 2 Q: Why Should I give to EGR Crew? A: Perhaps the most important reason is that Crew is a very positive and powerful force in the lives of youth rowers. Crew promotes the following values which our rowers will retain long after they leave: • Dedication and perseverance • Self sacrifice • Excellence • Deep friendships with a wide group of individuals • Lifelong fitness • Teamwork Q: How do you row in the middle of winter? A: No, we we aren’t on Reeds Lake yet until the ice thaws. We will have rowing machines (ergometers) outdoors on the sidewalks that we will be rowing on. Q: How long has the team been around? A: EGR Crew began in 1999 and the team has grown & rowed competitively all over Michigan and the Midwest, each year generating more fans and support. Please visit EGRcrew.org to get the dates of our spring regattas & hope you come out to watch us! Q: Are there any opportunities for the community to row on Reeds Lake? A: Yes we have a popular “LE ARN- T O-R O W” program and strongly encourage you to give it a try! Visit our website for more information or join the official Facebook page: “EGR Crew Team!” It's a blast and the Learn To Row Adults last spring met on Sunday mornings. Q: I’m In! How do I donate?
