FAQs
What is the Vodafone Workplace Challenge?
It is a challenge to get you moving.
Team members count their minutes of physical activity every day. Tally your minutes on the
provided wall chart, then log your team minutes online each week.
It’s about getting active and motivating each other to do as much physical activity as you can
over the four weeks of the challenge.
What counts as minutes?
Any activity that goes for longer than 10 minutes and gets your heart rate up.
Walking, jogging, running, biking, sport, swimming, cross training, weight training, teeing off and
walking the fairways all counts; as does taking part in any registered sport.
The challenge is based on trust, so please be honest about what you think counts. For example,
if you play a round of golf that lasts five hours, be realistic about the amount of time you were
actually active and the amount of time spent standing around – you might only log 2 ½ hours as
active minutes.
What doesn’t count?
Anything that doesn’t get your breathing or heart rate up, for instance light gardening or
housework.
Any physical activity you do during work hours (for example if you are a fitness instructor or
builder) DOESN’T count, so that there’s an even playing field for all teams. You can count the
minutes you are active during your breaks if that activity meets the criteria!
As above, we just ask that you be honest about what constitutes physical activity and what gets
your heart rate up.
When does the Challenge start and finish?
It starts on Monday 31 October and ends on Sunday 27 November.
How much does it cost to enter?
The cost is $20 per person.
So for the cost of a coffee per week you'll get:
>> More than $40 worth of free upgrades from Subway South City, Wachner Place and Gore,
including two free coffees
>> Access to the following deals during the course of the Vodafone Workplace Challenge

How does the Small Business Category work?
The Small Business category is for teams with less than five employees and is open to teams of
three or four people. The total team minutes will be averaged out based on how many people are
in your team, so a team of three isn’t disadvantaged over a team of four.
When I registered I was asked to state which category my workplace fell into – what was this for?
This is so you can track how your team is going against other teams in a similar industry to you.
There are no prizes for winning your category, but you’ll definitely earn some major bragging
rights!
What is the Stay at Home Parent category?
This is new for 2016 and designed for groups of five Stay at Home Parents.
Teams in this category will not be eligible for overall winning prizes, but all individuals are eligible
for spot prizes, and weekly team challenge prizes.
How can I win prizes?
The focus is on spot prizes, so anyone can win just by being involved!
There are also some awesome prizes up for grabs for taking part in the weekly team challenges.
We’ll draw spot prizes every week (you’ll be informed of winners through a weekly e-newsletter
and on the Vodafone Workplace Challenge facebook page), plus there will be plenty up for grabs
at the event prize-givings in Gore and Invercargill.
How do I access deals and discounts?
Each individual involved will receive an ID card in your team registration pack, which will enable
you to access deals and discounts.
How and when do I log my minutes online?
Your team captain should log the team’s minutes online each week, by following the links online
at www.sportsouthland.co.nz. Minutes for the previous week need to be logged by end of
day Tuesday.
What are Bonus Minutes and Weekly Challenges?
Each week there are Bonus Minutes activities where you can earn extra minutes just for turning
up!
If you attend these activities you will gain the minutes you get from taking part, PLUS Sport
Southland will add a specified number of extra minutes to your totals!
Weekly challenges are fun team challenges with awesome prizes up for grabs.
Check out the relevant sections of this website to find out more about both of these initiatives!
How will I be kept up to date throughout the Challenge?
Sport Southland will send out weekly e-newsletters to all of the email addresses registered
(which is why it’s important to list every team member’s email address). We will also share
updates on the Sport Southland Facebook page
