Since 2004, the value (in current prices) of exports of oil seeds and oleaginous fruits used for the extraction of other fixed oils (SITC group 223)
increased more than twofold (on average by 24 percent each year) and amounted to US$2.8 bln in 2008 (table 2). Graph 1 shows that in 2008, its
exports increased by 45.7 percent, compared to 21.2 percent for world exports of inedible crude materials, except fuels (SITC section 2) and 15.3
percent for total world exports. It accounted for 0.4 percent of world exports of inedible crude materials, except fuels (SITC section 2) and less than
0.1 percent of total world exports (table 1).
USA and Canada were the two major exporting countries. In 2008, they accounted respectively for 23.3 and 16.5 percent of world exports (table
2). Netherlands was another major exporting country, with 13.5 percent of world exports. USA was also one of the major destinations, together
with Belgium and Mexico (table 3). By MDG regions (graph 2), Developed North America was the origin of a large share of exports of oil seeds and
oleaginous fruits used for the extraction of other fixed oils (SITC group 223): in 2008, its exports were valued at US$1.1 bln, resulting in a trade
surplus of US$828 mln. Developed Europe was the destination of a majority of goods: its imports amounted to US$1.3 bln and it recorded a trade
deficit of US$417 mln. A deficit amounting to US$393 mln was recorded by Latin America and the Caribbean.
