change a light - change the world take the pledge be a watt watcher

CONGRATULATIONS!
You are the new owner of two compact fluorescent light (CFL)
bulbs. CFLs are revolutionizing the way we light our homes and
manage our electricity usage. They use about 75 percent less energy
than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer.
By installing these two lights, you’ll save energy, save money and
help to protect the environment.
CHANGE
A
LIGHT - CHANGE
THE
WORLD
We are providing these CFLs to you as a part of the ENERGY STAR®
Change a Light, Change the World Campaign. This campaign is
a national call-to-action from the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to encourage every
individual to help change the world - one light at a time.
If all the households in Maryland changed just one incandescent
light bulb to a CFL bulb, the combined individual efforts would
have the following impacts:
•
Maryland could save up to 107 million kilowatt-hours of
electricity per year. This is enough energy to light all the
households in Annapolis for 3.3 years.
•
Based on the average electric rates in Maryland, the amount
of energy saved would reduce household electric bills by a
combined total of $8.9 million a year.
•
Maryland would also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 169
million pounds per year. This is equivalent to removing 15,000
cars from the road.
TAKE
THE
PLEDGE
We are encouraging all of our customers in Maryland to participate
in the Change a Light Campaign by taking the ENERGY STAR
Change a Light Pledge. This online pledge is a quick and easy way
for Maryland residents to commit to save energy and protect the
environment.
To take the pledge, go to www.energystar.gov and
click on “Take the ENERGY STAR Change a Light
Pledge.” When you are prompted to choose the
organization that referred you to the Web site, please
select Allegheny Power from the drop down menu.
