JOB CONTEXT:
Community Transport Glasgow (CTG) is an enterprising and successful Scottish charity that
delivers high quality, reliable, accessible transport to communities in Glasgow.
Core services are:
• Group Transport – around 180 voluntary organisations have used our services
• Transport Services – commissioned by SPT and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Evening
Hospital Visiting Service and Exercise Classes Transport for Falls Patients) and Glasgow City
Council (transport to and from voluntary clubs)
• Timetabled Services – CTG was voted ‘best new transport initiative 2012’ by Community
Transport Association (Scotland) for its timetabled service in the Drumchapel area
CTG also delivers training and consultancy services and recently established a vehicle repair and
maintenance facility to service and maintain its own fleet of 16 minibuses and those of other
community transport operators.
POST AIMS:
The primary aim of this new project is to improve access to NHS appointments and other healthrelated services for isolated older people in the North East of Glasgow who would not be able to
attend otherwise due to transport difficulties. A secondary aim is to improve access to a range of
other local services for isolated older people.
The postholder will be responsible for the development of a new volunteer car scheme, recruiting
and supporting volunteer drivers to transport isolated older people to and from NHS appointments
and other health-related services.
OBJECTIVES AND TARGETS:
Objectives and targets for the post include:
 To develop an effective referral system and produce / distribute targeted promotional materials
 To recruit, support and maintain sufficient numbers (5 or more) of regular volunteer drivers to
meet demand
 To promote the service to relevant GP surgeries, health centres and outpatient clinics e.g. at
the Royal Infirmary, Stobhill and the Southern General
 To support the delivery of a minimum of 560 passenger journeys
 To explore and develop joint working with relevant agencies
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage all aspects of volunteer driver recruitment, training and support / supervision
 Liaise with colleagues in CTG (including Transport Manager) on recruiting, selecting and
preparing suitable volunteer drivers including regular driver assessments
 Arrange support, supervision and initial and ongoing training opportunities for volunteers
(e.g. emergency procedures, customer care)
 Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of drivers whilst volunteering
2. Market the project effectively
 Produce effective publicity materials for recruiting volunteers and promoting the project
 Distribute publicity materials using existing contacts and networks
 Promote the project to Health Care Professionals and a range of other agencies in contact
with isolated older people in the North East to maximise appropriate referrals
3. Implement effective work processes to ensure smooth running of the new scheme
 Establish and oversee an effective referral system in liaison with Health Care Professionals
 Liaise with colleagues in CTG’s office on developing internal processes and procedures
 Explore joint working with other relevant agencies (e.g. Good Morning Glasgow)
4. Record, monitor and evaluate the outputs and outcomes of the project
 Ensure effective recording of new enquiries, referrals, journeys made, volunteer drivers etc
 Survey a sample of passengers and Health Care Professionals to determine outcomes
 Identify and address potential service improvements and developments
 Produce monthly progress reports for CTG’s Board and other reports as required
6. Represent CTG at meetings and events as required
 Promote the full range of CTG products and services
In addition to the these duties, the postholder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the
Operations Manager from time to time to ensure the effective operation of the company and the
achievement of its objectives.
AUTONOMY AND DECISION-MAKING:
The post holder is expected to be self-directed and operate with a high level of autonomy within
their own service area and in pursuing agreed outcomes for CTG.

COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS:
The main internal contacts of the post are:
 Operations Manager on a monthly basis to discuss performance, review service and plan
forward activity, or as required to discuss specific issues
 Transport Manager as required to support training and assessment of volunteer drivers
 Finance and administration staff as required to support effective day to day operation of the
service
 Volunteer drivers to assess availability, schedule journeys, review service etc
The main external contacts of the post are:
 Health Care Professionals in GP surgeries, health centres and outpatient clinics e.g. at the
Royal Infirmary, Stobhill and the Southern General
 Other agencies in contact with isolated older people
