A show by the company
Coproduction MP2013-Opening Nights, Théâtre de Lenche
Ça cartonne !
Creation date : december 2014
In the darkness, piled up boxes start to move,
to fall, to glide, to collide, to dance. Is it a
dream ? An alarm clock rings. windows open.
Lights, sound. A ‘house’ box and a ‘nomadic’
box appear, each with their own inhabitant, two very different characters. These neighbours
start to tease, to argue, to fight using music and sound. they build a separation wall and suffer
the consequences… finally they find a way to destroy such a frontier and create a different
world together, made of fragile and colourful cardboard towers…
The show
This play has been devised based on
a very specific material : cardboard,
and all it means to us, from hut to
precarious housing, from shell to
frail rampart protecting us from
the environment. Cardboard is
ubiquitous in our society. Both
disposable and reusable, fragile
and solid, it is a neutral material
which can tell many stories...
Using a few simple things, Qui-Bout ! transports its audience into an imaginary world : with
cardboard boxes, two characters, a small guitar, a radio, a toothbrush, a coffee cup, a
newspaper, a tea towel, lights and music, the company reflects the absurdity and complexity
of the human being.
Ça Cartonne ! is a visual show without words for grown-ups and children from three years old.

funny and poetic worlds in which music and objects have an important role. By using basic
materials and simple processes, the artistic objective is to enhance the present, to connect
with the pleasure of playing and taking the audience within their
imagination; questionning yesterday and today’s world.

Workshop
Building Together !
Depending on the age and number of the attendees,
the workshop can last from 1h30 to 3h
(adults and children from 3 years okd)
With Lila Berthier and Claire Leyat
As they did during the creation of the show, the actresses offer to use boxes to build a new
world.
Using different size of boxes, cuting them, sticking them together, the attendees create
something… An arm? A leg? A hiding place? An animal? A character? Something else?
Due to their imagination they all become actors improvising with their own box. It is now
part of them. They play with it and create a theater piece with no words… Onomatopoeias
maybe… Each attendant play infront of the others, along with some musical background.
With younger children we can build together, one after the other, a world of boxes…
The challenge, create a world that does not fall down !
