Introduction
The Warren/Alvarado/Oslo River
Watch group test the Snake River
Watershed which is thirty miles
northwest of Crookston, MN. Over the
years the WAO River Watch team has
realized how beautiful the river is and
the opportunities around it. There are
several activities around our river that
we hope to endorse in the future. The
data that the WAO River Watch collects
is essential so the community is aware of
the constraints and improvement needs.
This poster will help clarify the needs
and hopes of the local river.
Our Audience
Mission

our community out and enjoying
our river as much or more than
we do. We plan to promote our
river to our surrounding
communities and endorse river
recreation and stewardship.
Why Our River?
● This info applies all residence Middle-SnakeTamarac Watershed but, mainly Marshall
County residence
● Outdoor Lovers - kayakers, fishermen,
campers, boaters, and swimmers
● The bird watching community
Activities Around Our River
● We have two parks along the river that
provide amenities like bathrooms and
picnic areas.
● There is a tremendous amount of
beauty that is unseen by the public.
● Warren is small yet workable for river
recreation..
● Snake River has many access points
within the city making it easy to use.

● Raise awareness - campaign a river
cleanup plan, posters/flyers,
approach city council and other
community oriented organizations
● Organize a cleanup day with WAO

○ clear snags
○ clear fallen trees
○ remove unwanted rocks
○ remove garbage from water and
areas around the water

Importance of water testing
● Turbidity- we need to know how clean the water is
● Appearance - is it muddy, filled w/ garbage, and tree snags
● Maintain a stable PH balance- can indicate new materials in
the water and whether or not they harmful
● Water flow - if the current is too fast or water to deep the
public should know if they need to stay away.
● flood predictions - our results are given to the local
watershed and DNR so the info can be out in the open so
the public knows whether or not to prepare the homes and
other assets

Watershed
● Water quality is good in the eastern part of our watershed. This part has
more forest and grasslands.
● Turbidity becomes progressively worse in the western half of our watershed
as the landscape changes from primarily forests and grasslands to
agricultural lands.

Invasive Species
If you do not properly clean your canoe Zebra mussels, Eurasian
watermilfoil are some of the many invasive aquatic species that
can transported through dirty canoes. One should take these
precautionary steps to stop the spread of these species.
