Acts 17:1–4
1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis
and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where
there was a synagogue of the Jews. 2 And Paul
went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath
days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3
explaining and proving that it was necessary for the
Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and
saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the
Christ.” 4 And some of them were persuaded and
joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the
devout Greeks and not a few of the leading
women.
Acts 17:5–9
5 But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men
of the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an
uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring
them out to the crowd. 6 And when they could not find
them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers
before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who
have turned the world upside down have come here
also, 7 and Jason has received them, and they are all
acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is
another king, Jesus.” 8 And the people and the city
authorities were disturbed when they heard these things. 9
And when they had taken money as security from Jason
and the rest, they let them go.
Acts 17:10–14
10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by
night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into
the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more
noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the
word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily
to see if these things were so. 12 Many of them therefore
believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing
as well as men. 13 But when the Jews from Thessalonica
learned that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul
at Berea also, they came there too, agitating and
stirring up the crowds. 14 Then the brothers immediately
sent Paul off on his way to the sea, but Silas and Timothy
remained there.
1 Thessalonians 1:4–7
4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he
has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to
you not only in word, but also in power and in
the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know
what kind of men we proved to be among you
for your sake. 6 And you became imitators of us
and of the Lord, for you received the word in
much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so
that you became an example to all the
believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.
1 Thessalonians 1:8–10
8 For not only has the word of the Lord sounded
forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but
your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so
that we need not say anything. 9 For they
themselves report concerning us the kind of
reception we had among you, and how you
turned to God from idols to serve the living and
true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven,
whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who
delivers us from the wrath to come.

the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had
argued with one another about who was the greatest.
Hebrews 12:5
5 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses
you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline
of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him.
Jude 9
9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the
devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not
presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but
said, “The Lord rebuke you.”
Acts 17:2
2 And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days
he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
Acts 17:17
17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout
persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who
happened to be there.
Acts 18:4
4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and tried to
persuade Jews and Greeks.

19 And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there, but he
himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

8 And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke
boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of
God.
Acts 19:9
9 But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil
of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the
disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus.
Acts 20:7
7 On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break
bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he
prolonged his speech until midnight.

an opportunity I will summon you.”
Romans 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is
the power of God for salvation to everyone
who believes, to the Jew first and also to the
Greek.
1 Corinthians 1:18–24
18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it
is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the
discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” 20 Where is the
one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater
of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the
world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not
know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly
of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews
demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach
Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to
Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and
Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
Hebrews 2:4
4 while God also bore witness by signs and
wonders and various miracles and by gifts of
the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
2 Corinthians 12:12
12 The signs of a true apostle were performed
among you with utmost patience, with signs
and wonders and mighty works.

Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the
Scriptures the things concerning himself.

dinner and you are disposed to go, eat
whatever is set before you without raising any
question on the ground of conscience.
1 Corinthians 2:1–5
1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come
proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty
speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing
among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3
And I was with you in weakness and in fear and
much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message
were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in
demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that
your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in
the power of God.
2 Corinthians 10:10–11
10 For they say, “His letters are weighty and
strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and
his speech of no account.” 11 Let such a
person understand that what we say by letter
when absent, we do when present.
