Unit 318 - Task Ai
Brief
The soil has a pH of 5.5 - 6 this means the soil is Acidic. All soil in the raised beds will need to be Grade 1
Top Soil with 20% leaf mould added, before you can plant in them.
The raised beds are constructed of 3 rows of engineering bricks. You will need 650 in total for the 4 half
circle shaped beds (this includes extra in case of damages).
The Raised plinth in the central bed will need 60 bricks (3 rows of 5 bricks on each side) this will support
the 1 metre2 slab.
The plinth will be in the center of this bed.
Which will be home to: A Bird Bath.
 A Sundial.
 A Statue.
The central bed will be a mixed bed of herbs in circular rings which will get shorter in height; taller plants at
the center reducing height with each tier, the shorter plants will be edible on the outside edge.
The central bed was done as a sensor garden, this contains herbs for





Smell - the scent of the herb
Taste - this plant is edible
Touch - the way the plant feels between the fingers
Movement - the noise the plant makes in the wind
Sight - this is how the plant looks to the eye
The semi-circle beds can be raised or cut into the ground to suit. These will contain the roses which are in
keeping with the Victorian themed garden. There is 4 beds in all but, opposite beds are planted identical.
