Dear Parent/Carer
The University of Hull, University of York and York St John University are working in collaboration on a
programme designed to raise the aspirations of young people on the Yorkshire Coast. We aim to ensure
that all young people have the information they need about university in order to make well-informed
decisions about their futures. Part of this collaboration is the High Five project.
On Wednesday 5 April we are running a High Five Aspirations Day at York St John University. As your
son or daughter is part of the ‘High Five’ programme we would like to invite them to this event.
High Five students will have the opportunity to look around a university campus, meet current
university students, participate in interactive workshops, try out a university subject and enjoy social
activities in the Student Union.
As with all of our activities, this event is FREE. Coaches will be provided, leaving school at the start
of the school day and returning to school at approximately 5pm. Parents will be responsible for
providing onward travel for young people from school to home at the end of the day as we will have
missed normal school buses. Students will be accompanied on the trip by a member of staff from their
school. On arrival at York St John students will be provided with hot breakfast sandwiches and drinks
and lunch will be provided free of charge.
We hope that all Year 8 High Five students will attend this event from each of the schools
participating. Your child does not have to wear school uniform on this day.
For your child to be able to attend please complete the permission slip below and return it to school. If
you have not already returned the medical form sent to you by Mr McCluskie at the beginning of the
academic year, please return it with the slip below. Without this form we regret your child will not be
able to participate in this excursion. If you have returned your child’s form but the medical details have
changed please inform us of the changes/amendments we need to know about.

I understand that I am responsible for my child’s homeward journey from school to home as
they will return after normal school buses have departed.
