Dear Parents and Carers,
This year we have introduced a new rewards system that has been implemented in all of the classes. As a school we
have decided that it is vital that the children are being recognised and rewarded for their positive learning behaviours
in relation to our ‘5 R’s’. The school’s 5 R’s are resilience, responsibility, respect, resourcefulness and reflection.
These learning behaviours may be demonstrated through the children’s efforts and work within lessons and their
conduct within school and at playtimes.
Within each class there is a traffic light system and each day the children’s names will be on the green traffic light.
When they show positive learning behaviours they will move up the traffic light to silver and receive a ‘silver house
point’. They will also have their name written in the class Gold Book. When they have achieved 5 silver house points
and Gold Book entries they will receive a head teacher’s award. This will comprise of a special gold head teacher’s
sticker that will be awarded to them in Celebration Assembly along with a signed and dated certificate.
If a child demonstrates any negative learning behaviours within their work or conduct then they will move down the
traffic light to the orange light, where they will miss 3 minutes of play time, or the red light, where they will miss 5
minutes. If there are repeated instances where a child has had to move down the traffic light then parents will be
contacted so that we can work together to help the child.
We appreciate your support as we continue to move the school forward. If you have any questions regarding the new
rewards system then please arrange an appointment with your child’s class teacher who will be happy to discuss this
further with you.
Kind regards
Mrs O’Brien
