Inc.
(Building Education Support Teams)
was founded
three years ago and this
local college scholarship
group has been making
a strong impact helping
students across the Lehigh
Valley. What started out as
two education advocates
brainstorming in the wee
hours of the morning 9
years ago has led to financially helping more than
40 college students from
Allentown to Phillipsburg,
East Stroudsburg to Bethlehem and this is only the
beginning. Now BEST has
a Board of 15 members
that oversee the mission
of Building Education Support Teams (BEST, Inc.)
BEST, Inc is a 501c3
non-profit
organization
dedicated to aiding students in need of financial
assistance to fulfill their
dreams and goals of obtaining a college education
in various career fields
such as Nursing, Business,
Education, and Criminal
Justice.
The overall goal is
to offer the opportunity
for students to further
their education at a post
secondary institution of
their choice. The students
awarded the scholarship
sign a contract stating the
commitment to RETURN
to their high school district vicinity upon completion of their college
career and seek employ-
ment in their chosen field
and work for a minimum
of 2 years. Each student
is also assigned a mentor
to guide and assist them
throughout their college
career.
BEST Scholarship recipients- Kutztown University graduates Victor,
Danny, Maria, Juan and
Adam have all returned
to their community and
are paying it forward and
giving back by living and
working close by.
Through
fundraising such as banquets,
golf tournaments, private
donations and grant applications, BEST is able to
assist the students with
scholarships up to $1,000
annually. As BEST grows,
they intend to give each
student even more financial assistance. Building
Education Support Teams
– One Step At A Time is the
groups’ motto.
The BEST scholarship
organization’s fundraising efforts have brought
celebrity athletes such as
Baseball Hall of Famer’s
Fergie Jenkins, Monte Irvin along with Tommy
John, Dutch Daulton and
Larry Holmes to their
fundraising events. This
year Best partnered with
the SANDS Resort and
Bethlehem Golf Club.
Over 30 celebrity athletes
such as Tommy John, Bud
Harrelson, Rick Cerone,
Darren Daulton, Ottis
Anderson, Jim Eisenreich
and Miss New Jersey will
come together to support the 3rd Annual BEST
College Scholarship Celebrity Reception and
Tommy John
Golf Tournament on July
24-25th. Reception at the
SANDS Hotel on July 24th
6:30-8:30 .pm and Golf
July 25th at 8:00 am at
the Bethlehem Golf Club
in Bethlehem, PA. For
