Beech Class NEWS
This term Beech class will be
learning about climate changes and
will be looking at weather
conditions across the world. Beech
class have been very busy making
learning exciting. In literacy we
focused on fiction writing where we
all wrote our own extended story
about a journey. During maths we
looked at measure which involved
from measuring straws to wiggly
lines and even weighing our shoes!
In PE we have been dancing
waving our streamers to remind us
of how the wind blows. We have
been looking at weather paintings
and we’ve been sketching and
colour mixing to create raindrops.
There are some promising artists in
our class. To end the week with
some excitement it was world book
day and Beech class had some
interesting characters - Cinderella,
princesses and superheroes. All
the children in Beech class have
been working very hard and we are
very proud of our work!
Well done to the High Five Netball tournament players today, you were a credit to
the school and I have to say it was a pleasure to take you to Newlands and then on
for some more at Courthouse to which we had a triumphant victory against them 139, the afternoon at the tournament clearly paved the way for the game at
Courthouse after school and showed how adaptable and versatile our pupils are as
they moved from High Five netball rules to a seven a side game. Well done to
Farah, Zaara, Basma, Haleema, Samia, Faiz, Abdullah and Mujtaba, Miss Porter
and myself had a lovely afternoon with you and enjoyed taking you.
As for the High Five netball tournament at Newlands, the results were as follows
•

Riverside v Wessex - lost 0-3
Riverside v Courthouse A - lost 0-9
Riverside v St Edmund Campion C - win 3-0
Riverside v Furze Platt C - win 5-0
Riverside v Cookham Rise A - draw 0-0
Riverside v All Saints B - win 4-0
Riverside came third out of our pool but did not get through to the quarter finals but
who knows what will happen this time next year? All of the children played really
well and took on board what they had to improve on as a team and made
improvements to their game, again well done Riverside!!
Sports Relief Day
Friday 18th March
Please start to get ready for Sport Relief which will be on Friday 18
March, children please get your running shoes on as we are hoping to get
all of the children in school to walk, jog or run a mile in their favourite PE
kit or favourite team in any sport!! Perhaps you can start thinking about
what to wear for the 18th and get in training for two weeks’ time.....
Please remember to give your children your £1 donation on the day so
that we can send in our money to Sport Relief after the event and many
thanks for your support in this matter.

From the Head’s Chair
Dear Parents/Carers
Spring is here and at last we are seeing some sunshine although it remains cold.
This is a very important time of the year for all our children but particularly for our
children in year 2 and year 6 who will be sitting their SAT’s. It is vitally important that
all our children have full attendance so that they don’t miss areas of work and
learning.
Thank you to you all for helping your child dress up and celebrate World Book Day.
Reading is so very important because children need to be able to read in all areas of
the curriculum. When they are doing word problems in Maths or finding out
information in history they need to be able to read.
We still await out visit from the Ofsted inspectors. Everyday our staff are working
hard so that all our children make progress. You can do your part by talking to them
about what they have been learning at school and encouraging them to do the best
they can everyday.
Have a lovely weekend.
