Data network – fit for the future
The daughter is watching her favourite
show on TV while the son is playing his
newest online game on his video game
console. The father is participating in a
telephone conference while administrating his HD films on the home server. The
mother is researching the next holiday
destination on the internet while listening to her favourite music.
Computer, video game console, TV, stereo equipment and internet become
more and more important in our everyday lives.
4
FRÄNKISCHE | DATALIGHT®
Triple play is the key word which connects IP telephony, IP TV and internet
usage. Radio controlled Wi-Fi and powerline solutions using the power network cannot be used for many applications.
Neither are the bandwidths sufficient nor
the transmission routes stable enough.
The POF-based DATALIGHT® system is
the ideal solution for triple play to work
simultaneously, smoothly, without radiation and interferences:
Whether in new constructions or existing properties, optical in-house networks make properties and their owners fit for the future.
Communication is a comprehensive
topic in our interconnected world and
connects the areas of work and leisure
time as well as entertainment and information. In addition, almost all of the
communication and information applications are becoming digital and thus
network compatible. This increases the
requirements on the infrastructure of
building technology.
Data network – fit for the future
IP telephony / voice over IP provides the
possibility of telephony over the internet
or within the network. This renders a
separate telephone line unnecessary.
AAL (Ambient Assisted Living) realises
age-appropriate assistance systems for
healthy, independent and safe living
within one's home.
Smart TV / IP TV allows watching TV
over the internet. New sat-to-IP transformers convert the satellite signal from
LNB to an IP signal. This allows using all
TV functions via the network structure in
the entire house, of course in best HDTV
image and sound quality.
Modern safety technology uses a network for the transmission of data and
makes the house a safe and carefree
environment for its inhabitants.
Smart home concepts use all technical
options to ideally adjust the house to the
individual needs of its inhabitants.
Smart grid uses data options to build
intelligent power networks, offers possibilities to save energy and makes the
house fit for the energy turnaround.
A home network provides, apart from
internet connection, access to all network devices, such as PC, TV, printer or
stereo equipment – data, films, music
and pictures are accessible from anywhere.

Technical requirements for the data network
The expansion of broadband internet
leads to increased requirements on inhouse networks: Watching TV, making a
call and at the same time surfing the
internet – where the data volumes of
powerline and Wi-Fi solutions do not
suffice most of the times, polymer opti-
cal fibres master the smooth transmission of even larger data volumes without any problems.
Polymer optical fibres (POF) open up
completely new possibilities for data
transmission in the network.
Characteristics of optical fibres
The cable made of full-duplex graded
index fibres has a diameter of only 2.2
mm and is thus very thin and still very
durable and hard-wearing. The PMMA
(Plexiglas) polymer fibre is 1 mm thick
and features a PE jacket. The illustration
shows how the multimode fibre works.
Small bend radii (20 mm) allow e. g.
installing loops in a flush-mounted
socket without any transmission losses.
The polymer optical fibre – a transparent plastic core plus plastic jacket – can
be installed unobtrusively also outside
of conduits and can even be plastered
or papered. The POF line can easily tolerate temperatures up to 80 ° C and is
resistant against almost any paints and
varnishes.

Installation with added value
Installing optical fibres together with the
electrical installation leads to an enormous decrease in the installation costs
for a network.
FFKuS DATALIGHT®, the plastic conduit
with low friction inner surface, goes one
step further: thanks to the integrated
polymer optical fibre, energy lines can
be installed in the same conduit.
Immune against electromagnetic fields
Electromagnetic fields, caused by
mobile phones, household appliances,
all electric wiring or Wi-Fi networks, are
ever-present today.
DATALIGHT® uses light signals for data
transmission and is completely radiation-free as well as insensitive to electromagnetic disturbances.
6
FRÄNKISCHE | DATALIGHT®
This also renders expensive earthing,
shielding and electrical isolation unnecessary. At the same time, this makes the
lines completely tap-proof.
Two applications in one conduit – this
saves space in the building infrastructure and when inserting the conduits in
the distribution.
Minimum effort for new constructions
and subsequent installations
Polymer optical fibres can be easily integrated in new constructions but are
also ideally suited for subsequent installations. Users can achieve a futureproof and stable transmission with
only minimum effort:.
case no conduits are available, it can
also be installed behind toeboards,
under carpets or in the door frame.
There is no need to prise open walls for
the hard-wearing fibre and also unpleasant cable channels are not necessary.
The optical fibre is just subsequently
integrated in an existing installation. In
DATALIGHT® is virtually invisible.
Economical and powerful
DATALIGHT® is an environmentally
friendly solution for home networks.
Whether in standby mode or running
operation – energy consumption is low
as compared to Wi-Fi or powerline:
optical transmission saves up to 80 %
of energy.
of connections consumes less than 1 W
per connection in standby mode; consumption during operation is up to 2 W
– and this with hugely increased performance!
Green IT in the truest sense of the word.
A network with integrated optical
switches, star distribution and a variety
Installation without special tools
Installation and contacting of the fibre is
easy and requires no special tools: plug
in, lock, done!
Compared with glass fibre installations,
there is no danger to the eyes since no
laser beams but LEDs with visible light
are used.
LEDs also control the function of the
DATALIGHT® route and data exchange
with contacted terminal devices. This
also renders special measurement technology to check the network unnecessary.
Quick info
n
Polymer fibres have been used
successfully in the automotive
industry for many years. They provide interference-free transmission of music, DVD or multimedia
applications during long and short
drives.
n
The advantages of POF-based networks in electrical installations are
obvious: An extensive infrastructure on an optical basis provides a
safe, quick and clean connection
which works reliably and guarantees a high degree of flexibility.

FFKuS DATALIGHT®
Using the DATALIGHT® system, a network can be installed in the entire living
space.
The components included in the
DATALIGHT® Kit 100 offer the ideal
basic equipment which can be adjusted
and expanded depending on the
requirements of the inhabitants.
The entire ground floor is equipped with
a network in the illustrated installation.
Whether an access point is installed at
all FFKuS DATALIGHT® outlets depends
on the individual requirements. However, this way you can prepare for the
future without having to decide today
where network access is actually
required.
If the entire electrical installation is made
with FFKuS DATALIGHT®, access points
can be installed in virtually any socket
– you cannot have more flexibility.
The optical network expands in star
shape from the central switch in the
installations room and provides one or
several network access points in every
NB
room. Whether these should have Wi-Fi
can also be decided and adapted
respectively years after that.

FAQ
Which flush-mounted sockets are required for the
installation of DATALIGHT®?
What does triple play mean?
Triple play combines TV, internet and (IP) telephony.
FFKuS DATALIGHT® offers the possibility of transmitting
these data.
We recommend the 65 mm deep flush-mounted sockets
included in the kit.
Can power lines be installed in addition to the integrated data line in the FFKuS DATALIGHT®?
Yes, since the Duplex Fibre DATALIGHT® is insensitive to
electromagnetic interference, power lines can be
installed in the conduit as well.
How can network-compatible terminal devices be connected with each other via DATALIGHT®?
The optical signals are converted to electromagnetic signals via the media converter included in the LAN Access
Point 2-Port DATALIGHT®. All network-compatible terminal devices can be connected via the RJ45 connections
(Ethernet ports).
How can I access the internet via DATALIGHT®?
Usually, the switch is connected directly to the router or
modem via the Ethernet port (RJ45). All devices then
have network access to the internet from there.
What must be observed when using the cutter for the
DATALIGHT® installation?
Based on experience, the cutter can be used up to 20
times. We recommend not using it anymore after a
deformation of the blade becomes visible since this can
lead to a higher attenuation.
Is the Duplex Fibre 2.2 PE DATALIGHT® suited for outdoor applications?
The POF cable is manufactured without UV stabiliser
and therefore not suited for outdoor applications without
additional protection.
