Welsh Curriculum KS2Stage 2 Programme of Study

Welsh Curriculum KS1
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Skills: To experience the familiar world through
investigating the indoor and outdoor environment,
children should be encouraged to be curious and
find out by:
 exploring and experimenting
 making observations and measurements and
keeping records
 making comparisons and identifying similarities
and differences
Range:
 investigate indoor and outdoor learning
environments, as well as including natural
conditions as they arise
 be involved in activities that allow them to work
as individuals and in groups
Welsh Curriculum KS2
2 Programme of Study
Communication
 communicate clearly by speech, writing, drawings,
diagrams, charts, tables, bar charts, line graphs,
Developing
Pupils follow the planned approach/method, revise it
where necessary, and where appropriate:
 make careful observations and accurate
measurements, using digital and ICT equipment at
times
Reflecting
Pupils think about what they have done in order to
consolidate learning and transfer skills, knowledge and
understanding to other contexts.
 form considered opinions and make informed
decisions.
Communicating findingsOrganise and communicate
their findings using relevant scientific language.
Explaining Use scientific knowledge and understanding
to explain their findings and differences between, or
changes to organisms.
Places and people
 recognise how people’s actions can improve or
damage the environment.
Time and people
 recognise the changes caused by time, e.g. to
themselves and to people and places familiar to
them
Myself and other living things
 observe differences between animals and
plants, different animals, and different plants in
order to group them
 identify some animals and plants that live in the
outdoor environment
 identify the effects the different seasons have
on some animals and plants.
Art, craft and design
 explore and experiment with a variety of
techniques and materials
 make choices when choosing materials and
resources
Interdependence of organisms
Pupils should use and develop their skills, knowledge
and understanding by investigating how animals and
plants are independent yet rely on each other for
survival.
 through fieldwork, the plants and animals found in
two contrasting local environments, e.g.
identification,
 nutrition, life cycles, place in environment
 the interdependence of living organisms in those
two environments and their representation as food
chains
 the environmental factors that affect what grows and
lives in those two environments, e.g. sunlight, water
availability, temperature
 how humans affect the local environment, e.g. litter,
water pollution, noise pollution.
 any hazards and risks to themselves and others.
The sustainable Earth
 a consideration of what waste is and what happens
to local waste that can be recycled and that which
cannot be recycled.
