Trimming the Video (Avidemux)
1. Click on File and select Open from the drop down menu
2. Insert the video you wish to trim
3. Change the output format to MP4 Muxer
4. Play the video and select the point from where you wish to
begin.
5. Press the stop button at the point you want to trim and then
press the A button.
6. Play the video again
7. Press the stop button where you want to end your video
and then press the B button
8. To save the trimmed video, go to File and select Save from the
drop down menu
9. Give a new file name to your video
10. Go to File and open the trimmed video
11. Go to Audio and click on Select Track
12. Tick on Track 1 and change copy to PCM
13. Click OK
14. Change the Audio Output to PCM
15. Go to Audio and select Save Audio
16. Change the file extension to .wav
17. Save it and we are done 
Joining Files (tsMuxeR)
1. Insert your first video file by clicking on Add
2. Select the video from your folder and click on Open
3. Click on Join and insert your next video
4. Add the remaining videos in the same way
5. Your tsMuxeR window should look like this now
6. Go to Output and click on Browse
7. Select the folder where you want to save the final output, give
a file name, and save it.
8. Select MT2S muxing
9. Click on Start Muxing
10. Your final video should be ready in the destination folder 
Converting and compressing the files (HandBrake)
1. In the menu bar, click on Tools and select Options
2. Go to Output Files
3. Remove the ticks from the boxes
4. Change MP4 File Extension as Always use MP4
5. Browse and select your destination folder
6. Click on Close at the bottom
7. Click on Source
8. Select Open a single file from the drop down menu
9. You will see the name and duration of your file in Source/Title if it
has been added
10. Tick on the box for Web Optimized
11. Change the width to 960 (ideal for ELAN)
12 Browse and set a destination folder
13. Click on Start
14. If you wish to convert more files then repeat steps 7 and 8 after
12 instead of clicking on start
15. Once each file has been added click on Add to Queue
16. Repeat the process until all files are added
17.Check the added files by clicking on Show Queue
18. You can also choose what you want your computer to do once the
process is over: Show Queue > When Done > Shutdown/Hibernate
19. Click on Add below Presets on the extreme right of the
window
20. Set Preset Name as ELAN
21. Click on Add
21. Select ELAN
22. Go to Options and choose Set Default (This will ensure that
your future files will be converted in this format unless you
choose other settings)
23. Start the conversion by clicking on Start
24. Your converted MP4 files will be ready in the destination folder 
ELAN
1. Go to File > New
2. Go to Look in and elect the folder in which you have your
media file
3.Select the audio and video file you want to annotate
4. Press the
button to move the files to the Selected File
window
5. Your ELAN window will look like this now
6. Start/stop your media file with Ctrl+Space keys on your keyboard.
You could also use the
/II buttons that appear just below your video
7. Go to Type > Select Add New Linguistic Type
8. Add Type Name
9. Select Stereotype if required
10. Click on Add
11. Go to Tiers > Add New Tier
12. Insert Tier Name > participant > Annotator
13. Select Parent Tier (if any) and Linguistic Type
14. Click Add
15. Once you have added all the tiers, go to Delete and delete the
default tier
16. Now go to Types > Delete Type, select Default and click on the
Delete button
17. Right Click on a tier > Sort Tiers > Sort by Hierarchy
18. Go to File > Save as Template
Now you do not have to insert types and tiers for any new
annotation. Just select Template after adding the media files and
add the .etf template file (refer to the slide of step 2 – 4)
19. Click on the wave file from where you want to begin your
annotation and drag it up to where you want to continue.
20. You can listen to the selected part by clicking on the play
selection button
21. Double click on the selected tier where you want to link that
transcription
22. Enter text
23. Go to File > Save
24. For ELAN advanced search > Search > Define Search
Domain > New Domain
25. Select and add the files > OK > Specify a name for the
domain to save > save
