Product Description
DryBlock Figure 8
Light Armor Cable
T
he DryBlock® Figure 8 Light Armor Loose Tube Fiber
Optic Cable offers an attractive alternative for aerial
cabling installations with demanding loading conditions
that also require added rodent resistance. An integrated,
extra-high-strength (EHS) stranded steel messenger
teams with electrolytically chrome-coated steel (ECCS)
armor to deliver outstanding strength, corrosion resistance and protection from chewing rodents. The Figure
8 Light Armor Cable also helps save on time and money
with rapid, one-step installation.
To construct the Figure 8 Light Armor Cable, optical
fibers are placed within color-coded, gel-filled buffer tubes
to protect the fibers from environmental and mechanical forces. Next, the buffer tubes are stranded around a
dielectric central member using the reverse oscillating lay
(ROL) stranding method. DryBlock water-blocking material, dielectric strength elements and a layer of ECCS
armor are then applied to the cable core. Finally, a quarter-inch EHS stranded steel messenger and a durable
polyethylene (PE) jacket are applied to complete the cable
construction.

Why the DryBlock Figure 8 LA Cable?
The DryBlock Figure 8 Light Armor Cable’s integrated,
EHS stranded steel messenger provides strength and corrosion resistance that surpass those offered by common
utility-grade messengers. In addition, a layer of rugged
ECCS armor offers outstanding protection from rodent
damage. This cable’s loose tube construction also delivers excellent fiber protection, and a UV and water-resistant PE outer jacket offers maximum cable protection from
moisture and weathering.
By eliminating the need to lash cable to a separately
installed messenger, this cable design also helps save
time and money on deployment with fast, one-step installation using standard attachment hardware.
The DryBlock Figure 8 Light Armor Cable is designed
for aerial installations with rigorous load conditions,
including heavy wind and ice (for spans up to 500 feet
(150 meters))*.
* Longer span lengths possible depending on climate, loading conditions, sag
and clearance requirements.
