ABOUT THE EXAM
The examination will take place at Shropshire Music Service, Longmeadow Road, Bayston Hill
Shrewsbury, SY3 0NU.
The exact date and time of the examination can only be finalised by the exam board.
You are not able to reserve a specific appointment time for your examination.
Notification will be sent to parents via the Music Service teacher once the timetable has been
agreed. Usually 14 days before the examination date.
Refunds for examination fees are not normally possible once they have been paid. In certain
cases, however, partial refunds are given if a candidate is ill and presents a doctor’s certificate
to the exam board via the exams coordinator at the Shropshire Music Service.
Students should arrive at least 20 minutes before their exam time. A practice area will be
available.
Students must bring along their instrument, instrument stand (if necessary) and music (for
the student and accompanist).
For Piano examinations the Music Service Piano will be available to students.
THE APPLICATION FORM
The application form can be found in this booklet.
Applications are given out via the Shropshire Music Service teachers to those students they
feel are ready to take the exam.
Entry represents a total commitment to regular, conscientious practice of the examination
syllabus including scales.
The entry must be received by the Shropshire Music Service before the deadline at the end
of the working day. Entries received after this date will be returned.
The application form must be fully completed with all the information requested. If you are
unsure of any of the information please contact the Music Service teacher who will be able
to help you.
Prices are continually checked and updated according to the exam board.
PAYMENT
Payment should be sent in full with the application form.
Any application forms received with part payment will be returned and the student will not
be entered.
Shropshire Music Service can only accept payment by cheque. Cheques should be made
payable to Shropshire Music Service Examination Account.
We are unable to acknowledge receipt of payments.
Cheques will be banked after the closing date. If you are concerned your cheque has not been
banked please contact the office to check if your application has been received.
In some instances, where not enough applications have been received for the exam session
to go ahead, cheques will be returned with an application form for the next round of
examinations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS CANDIDATES
The Shropshire Music Service is responsible for ensuring that the exam board is aware of any
particular special requirements/needs.
Please ensure you send this information to us in writing with the application form so we can
inform the exam board. Only then will they pass this information to the examiner for his/her
consideration.
In some cases additional time will be granted.
If you have any concerns please contact the exam coordinator or the Music Service teacher.
If you require any further assistance from the Music Service please let us know so we can try
and accommodate you.
EXAM ACCOMPANIST AND FEE
With the exception of Piano and Keyboard examinations all examinations will require an
accompanist.
In autumn 2013 we introduced the option for parents to pay an additional £7.50 for the
student’s teacher to accompany the exam. (This is not applicable for private students.)
Unfortunately not all Music Service staff are able to accompany their students. Please check
before ticking the relevant box on the application form.
If your child’s teacher is unable to accompany you should arrange an alternative. The cost of
this will vary and can only be agreed by your chosen accompanist.
The accompanist must arrive at least 20 minutes before the exam time to enable the student
to practise before the exam.

THE RESULT AND CERTIFICATE
The results will be left with the Shropshire Music Service at the end of the exam session.
The Music Service teacher will be notified and will contact you with the result.
Results will not usually be given via the Music Service office.
The certificates and mark sheet will be released thereafter.
The Music Service teachers will hand certificates and mark sheets to the students during their
next lesson.
Under no circumstances will the Music Service office post this information to parents.
They can be collected from the office providing this has been mutually agreed.
