Choosing a platform for Streamit’s Lisa internet players Streamit’s in-store audio solution includes Lisa players and a platform that work together. You may have noticed that there are several platforms available. Why? Because no single size fits all. So, now you face the question, which platform is the best for you. To help you with this question, a short description of each of the common options is given below. Also there is a detailed comparison table on https://www.streamit.eu/solutions/platforms/. You may still have questions. Please do not hesitate to contact us, we’re happy to assist you in finding the solution that fits your situation, application and requirements best: [email protected]. The main components To understand how the options are built up, it helps to know which elements are necessary to make a complete solution: • Playlist generation tool: The music that the Lisa plays, must be planned. Which track follows which? That is programmed using a playlist generation tool. • The music needs to be sent to the Lisa to play. This can be done in two ways: - Streaming: A stream is generated (based on the generated playlist) and sent to the Lisa - Store-and-forward: The separate tracks are sent to the Lisa together with the playlist • The Lisa has to be configured to get the music and play • In most cases, you also want to monitor if the Lisa works correctly and make adjustments when necessary (control) The platform options described below differ in how each of these elements get their place. Option A: Device portal with an external webserver In this solution the Lisa is used for store-and-forward. Using your own playlist generation tool (or the very simple tool of Streamit), you create the playlist. This playlist and the music tracks are then placed on your webserver. Device portal is used to make the Lisa get the music and playlist from the webserver and play. This solution is suitable for situations where a limited number of store-and-forward programs are needed. Commercials are not possible, except for very simple setups. The steps to create this setup are described in a video. A step-by-step guide is also available. Option B: Device portal with an external streaming server In this solution the Lisa is used for streaming. Using your own tools, you generate the stream(s) that you need and make them available. Device portal is used to make the Lisa play the correct stream. It depends on the tools you use, how many different streams are manageable. This solution is suitable if you need (live) streaming or if you need crossfading between tracks. Option C: Claudio / Audio Distribution Platform (ADP) If you do not want to manage your own store-and-forward or streaming server, or if you need (advanced) planning of commercials, Claudio/ADP is for you. Also a third delivery method is available: Adaptive streaming, which allows you to change the program ‘on the fly’ (e.g., replace a track or insert a commercial). Using your own playlist generation tool (or the very simple tool of Streamit), you create the playlist(s) that you need. The playlists and the music tracks are placed on Claudio/ADP and everything else is configured there. This solution is suitable if you need a more elaborate setup or a combination of music delivery methods (streaming, store-and-forward). Option D: Device portal with SAM Vibe If you need a sophisticated playlist generation tool, we recommend SAM Vibe of Spacial Audio. You use SAM Vibe to easily generate a stream, including crossfading, according to your requirements. Device portal is used to make the Lisa play the stream that SAM Vibe generates. This solution is suitable if you need a sophisticated playlist generation tool or crossfading between tracks.
