One reason for this: The plant’s operator decided to implement a centralized power distribution concept that boasts an extremely high level of uniformity. The space available was limited, which meant that the solutions could not be selected based solely on the energy values. Three GEAFOL cast resin transformers of 5 MVA each now provide the 400 V low voltage required by the plant from the 20 kV medium-voltage supply. Thanks to their two-tier design, these transformers require relatively little installation space. They are also very reliable in operation and have a long service life. An NXplus C gas-insulated medium-voltage switchgear system was used as in infeed for the 20 kV mediumvoltage supply. This type-tested system is smaller, very reliable in operation, and maintenance-free – all essential advantages compared to air-insulated versions.
