Uniform power distribution concept for Moscow plant
“Tip“ for Ice
Tea Filling Plant
PepsiCo’s ice tea production and filling plant in the south of Moscow is
regarded as one of the most modern plants in Russia. One reason for this:
The plant’s operator decided to implement a centralized power distribution
concept that boasts an extremely high level of uniformity.

including all of its components, during
the three-week conception phase.
Planning tools for complete solutions
In addition to automatic dimensioning,
during which the software suggests suitable components for the power distribution system, Simaris design also makes it
possible to respond to parameter changes
that occur during the planning process.
In this way, the tool checks the effect that
these changes have on other parts of the
plant and dimensions the resulting
changes. Both this high level of flexibility
and uniformity and
the convenient and
fast selection, dimensioning, and determination of set
values won over
those in charge at
PepsiCo. Even the short-circuit calculation, including all set values for the trip
units in the circuit breakers, was completed within a week.
The space available was limited, which
meant that the solutions could not be
selected based solely on the energy values. Three GEAFOL cast resin transformers of 5 MVA each now provide the
400 V low voltage required by the plant
from the 20 kV medium-voltage supply.
Thanks to their two-tier design, these
transformers require relatively little
installation space. They are also very
reliable in operation and have a long
service life. An NXplus C gas-insulated
medium-voltage switchgear system was
used as in infeed for the 20 kV mediumvoltage supply. This type-tested system
is smaller, very reliable in operation,
and maintenance-free – all essential
advantages compared to air-insulated
versions.
