PARENTRESPONSIBILITYREGARDINGBEHAVIOR
ParkviewBaptistSchoolrecognizesparentalresponsibilityforstudentsupervision,andexpects
parentstosetstandardsofbehaviorconsistentwiththeschool’smissionstatementandCodeof
Conductduringnon‐schoolrelatedeventswhileundertheirdirectsupervision.ParkviewBaptist
Schoolreservestherighttotakeappropriatedisciplinaryactioninresponsetothemisbehaviorof
itsstudentsonoroffcampusduringschoolornon‐schoolrelatedevents,especiallyinserious
ParkviewBaptistSchoolStudentHandbook–2016‐2017‐Page2
mattersthatviolatethewell‐beingoftheschoolorpublic,orthehonorandgloryofJesusChrist.
SeriousviolationsofthisCodeofConductmayresultinsuspensionordismissalfromtheschool.
ParentalSupport
Astudentwhoseparent(s)demonstratesanuncooperativeattitudewiththeschooland/or
ahistoryofdisagreementwiththephilosophyandthemissionstatementoftheschoolor
howtheAdministrationandStaffcarryoutthedaytodayfunctionsoftheschool,maybe
dismissedfromtheschoolattheDivisionHeadorSuperintendent’sdiscretion.
PhilosophyofDiscipline






TheBibleclearlyindicatesthatparentsareresponsibleforthediscipline(thatis,trainingfor
instruction)oftheirchildren.TheChristianschoolexiststoassistparentsintheirGod‐given
responsibilities.ParkviewBaptistSchooldoesnotseektoassumeataskthatGodhasgivento
parents,butonlytoserve,inalimitedway,astheparents’appointedandauthorized
representativeinthechild’strainingprocess.ParkviewBaptistSchoolhasattemptedtoalign
themselvesascloselyaspossiblewiththeBible’sinstructionstoparentssoastoprovidethe
utmostconsistencyforthechildbetweentrainingreceivedathomeandtrainingreceivedat
school.Inthatsamespirit,theschoollikewiseassumesparentswilldirectanddisciplinetheir
childrenaccordingly.
ItisourbeliefthatGodexpectsparentsorotherauthoritiestodisciplineachildwiththegoal
thathe/sheconsistentlybecomesmoreself‐disciplined,requiringlesssupervisionashe/she
matures.God’sultimatepurposeinchargingparentswiththistaskistopreparechildrento
enterintoandmaturewithinGod’sfamily,andtorespondtoHimwithrespectandobedience
onthebasisofthetrainingthattheyhavereceivedfromtheirparents.
ParkviewBaptistSchool’sphilosophyofeducationanddisciplineexiststoserveandfurther
thisultimatespiritualgoal.
Duringschoolhoursandatotherschoolrelatedandschoolsupervisedfunctions,studentsare
torespondtoschoolfacultyandsupervisorystaffmemberswiththesameobedienceinaction
andrespectfulness,andinthesamespiritthatshouldbepresentunderbiblicalstandards
whentheyrespondtotheirparentsorguardians.Anyfailuretomaintainabiblicalattitudeof
respectandobediencetowardschoolauthority,whichmanifestsitselfinimproperbehavioror
violatedstandards,willresultindisciplinaryactionwhichisappropriatefortheviolation.The
schoolexpectsthatparentswillsupporttheadministrationofsuchdisciplinaryactionby
encouragingobedienceandrespectfulnesstotheactionoftheschool.Onlywhileoperating
withintheabovephilosophyofdisciplinecantheeducationalprocessreachitsmaximum
potential.
Thehome,church,andschoolpartnershipcanonlysucceedwhenthereisclear
communicationandmutualagreementregardingstudentbehavior.Thegoalofthissectionis
tooutlineandhighlightParkviewBaptistSchool’sexpectationsintheareaofstudent
behavior.OurstandardofbehaviorisbasedonthepillarsofChristianCharacter,Mutual
RespectandCommonCourtesy.
PBShasatitsfoundationthegoalsofpresentingaChristianeducationalprogramtoour
studentsandaChrist‐likemodeltothecommunity.Inlightofthesegoals,lifestyleisan
ParkviewBaptistSchoolStudentHandbook–2016‐2017‐Page3

importantconsideration.Withthisinmind,alongwiththescripturalguidelinesofliberty
foundin1Corinthians8‐10andRomans14,immorality,homosexualityandtheuseoftobacco,
alcoholanddrug‐relatedsubstances,bothonandoffschoolproperty,areunacceptable.A
Christianlifestylesimplycannotconfineitselftotheschoolday.
Itmustbeaconsistentlifestyleinpractice.Becausestudent’slifestylesreflectonthe
reputationoftheschool,aswellasthehome,PBSwillnothesitatetoassertdisciplineinareas
whereastudentpracticesalifestyleorengagesinactivitiesantagonistictothepolicies,goals
andcharacteroftheSchool.Disciplinaryaction,includingdismissal/expulsion,maybetaken
bytheschoolregardlessofwheretheeventoccurs.Standardsofconductandcharacterextend
toallactivities,regardlessiftheyareschoolrelated.
DRESS CODE
ThepurposeofthedresscodeistoencouragestudentstodressasChristianladiesandgentlemen,
representingbothParkviewBaptistSchoolandChrist.Inaddition,uniformsareasafetyfactorfor
ourschoolsothatstrangerscannotcomeoncampusunnoticed.Theschooluniformistobeworn
asdesignedbythemanufacturer.Theprincipalordesigneeshallbethefinalinterpreterofthe
dresscode.Thelistoutlinesthearticleofclothingrequiredforattendance.Theseitemsmaybe
purchasedattheEagles’Nest,Inka’sS’coolwearorSchoolTime.
Werespectfullyaskparentstoassisttheschoolby:
 Purchasingonlyregulationapparel;
 Maintaininganadequatesupplyoflaundereduniforms;
 Insistingthatthestudentcometoschoolwiththerequiredapparel,includingraingear
duringinclementweather.
Ifastudent’sattiredoesnotcomplywiththispolicy,his/herparent/guardianmayberequestedto
bringregulationappareltoschoolorkeepthestudentathomeuntiltheviolationhasbeen
correctedandmeetsadministrativeapproval.Absencesduetodresscodeandhaircutviolations

Attendance
ATTENDANCEPOLICY
RegularattendanceisrequiredbyLouisianalawandisnecessaryforgoodscholarship.Allschooldayson
thecalendarareconsideredfulldaysunlessotherwisespecifiedthroughnotificationorspecial
events.Attendanceatschoolbecomesapermanentpartofthestudent’srecord.Webelievethat
regularattendanceinclassisessentialtothesuccessofastudent’sschoolexperience.
Theschoolpolicyconcerningstudentparticipationinextracurricularactivities(i.e.athletics,spirit
groups,choir,band,club,etc.)requiresattendanceinfourclassperiods(orinMiddleSchool,at
leastfourhours)onthedayofparticipation.Extenuatingcircumstancesmustbeapprovedbythe
divisionhead.
ABSENCES
ReportingBacktoSchoolafteranAbsence
Thereisnoseparateaccountingofexcusedorunexcusedabsencesforpurposeofdetermining
whetherastudenthasreachedthethresholdnumberoften(10)absencespersemester.Anyclass
missedcountsasanabsencewhichisaccumulatedoverthesemester.Thisincludes:doctor
appointments,illnesses,retreats(otherthanschool),andabsencesrequestedbyaparentwith
priornotificationtotheadministration.Ifastudentmissesaclass,foranyreason,thiscountsas
anabsence.Studentswillbeconsideredabsentfromanyclasstowhichtheyaremorethan15
minuteslate.
Studentsmayhavepre‐arrangedparentaldiscretionabsencesforanythingbesidesillnesses.
Studentsabsenttogettheirdriver’slicensemaybeexcusedONLYIFpre‐arranged.
Intheeventofanabsence,inordertoreceivecreditformissedworkandfortheabsencetobe
consideredmedicallyexcused,theexcusalnotemustbewrittenbyadoctorwhospecializesin
theappropriateareathatcorrespondstothestudent’sabsence.Thedoctormustbea

Apre‐arrangedabsencegivestheschooladvancenoticethatthestudentwillbeabsent.Forthese

“Parents”tabonthewebsite,arequestfortheabsencetotheDeanofStudentsorDivisionHeadin
thatdivision.
Studentswillbeallowedtwo(2)pre‐arrangeddayspersemesterinwhichtheabsencecanbe
excused(atotalof4daysperyear).Aminimumofthree(3)dayswrittennoticetotheDivision
Headisrequiredinorderfortheprearrangedabsencetobeexcused.
Aftertheabsenceisexcused,theofficewillnotifytheteacher(s)thatithasbeenapproved.The
studentthenmustarrangewithhis/herteachersforalltheassignmentstobemissedduringsuch

reviewedbytheDivisionHeadfordeterminingapproval.Anystudentthatexceeds10absencesin
anysemesterwillbereviewedbytheadministrationandconsequencesmayapply.
MakeUpWorkFollowinganAbsence
 Ifanabsenceortardyisunexcused,upto½creditwillberecordedforanymissedworkor
test.
 Astudentwhohasanabsenceshall,bytheendofthedaythestudentreturnstoschool,
makearrangementswithhis/herteacher(s)foranymake‐upwork.Itisthestudent’s
responsibilitytomakethesearrangements.
 Studentsshallbeallowedatleastthesamenumberofdaysformake‐upworkasthe
numberofdaysabsentunlesstheassignmentwasassignedpriortotheabsence.
 Ifastudentislatemakingupthework,theLateWorkPolicywillapply.
 Excessiveunexcusedabsencesmayprecludestudentsfrommake‐upwork.Excessive

Ifastudentturnsinworklate,10%willbedeductedfromthegradeearnedperdayupto50%of
thegradeearned.Thisincludesmakingupworkortestsforanexcusedorapprovedabsence.
LateWorkPolicy(HighSchool)
TheLateWorkPolicywillbedeterminedbytheteacherand/ortheDepartmentChair,andwill
alsobedeterminedbythenatureoftheassignment(homework,projects,researchpapers,
etc.).Suchpenaltiescanincludeapercentagetakenofftheassignment,oranassignmentmaynot
beaccepted,etc.Thisincludesmakingupworkortestsforanexcusedorapprovedabsence.
CollegeVisitationDays(HighSchool)
Three(3)documentedcollegevisitationdayswillbeallowedforjuniorsandseniorsperschool
year.Studentsmustcompletemissedworkaccordingtothemake‐uppolicy.Documentationby
thecollegeadmissionsofficemustbesubmitteduponreturntoschool.Collegevisitsdonotcount
againstthetotalaccumulatedabsences.
AdministrativeReviewforExcessiveAbsences
Astudentwhohasten(10)ormoreabsencespersemestermaypresentdocumentationtothe
designatedDivisionHeadforwaiver.Theadministrativereviewofastudent’sabsenceswilloccur
underthefollowingcircumstances:
 Alicensedphysicianshalldocumentabsencesforextendedillnessesorhospitalizationwith
acertificationofillnessforthespecificdaysofabsence.
 Chronicillnessrequiresanannualverificationbyalicensedphysician.
ThedesignatedDivisionHeadshallreviewthedocumentation,renderadecision,andnotifythe
student,parent(s)andteacher(s).

CheckingInandOut
Doctorordentalappointments,personalorfamilyillness,deathinthefamily,religiousholidays,
andpre‐arrangedabsencesareconsideredexcusedabsences;allothersareunexcused.Detailed
recordsforstudentswillbekeptintheofficeregardingsigninginandoutofschool.Studentstoo
youngtodrivewillNOTbereleasedtoanyoneotherthanthestudent’sparent(s)orlegalguardian
exceptwhenparentshavegivenpermissionforanotherpersontopickthestudentup.
Elementary
Elementaryparentsmustsignthecheckin/outformintheelementaryoffice/receptionistdesk
whencheckingchildrenin/outduringtheday.Astudentmaynotcheckoutafter2:45pm.
MiddleSchool
Middleschoolparentsmustsignthecheckin/outforminthemiddleschoolreceptionareawhen
checkingchildrenin/outduringtheday.MiddleSchoolstudentsmaynotcheckoutafter2:45pm.
Ifastudentchecksoutandreturnsthesameday,thestudentmustpresentadoctorordentist
excusefortheclassesmissedoraparentmustaccompanythestudenttothemiddleschooloffice
andmeetwiththeDeanofStudentsorDivisionHead.

TARDINESS
Punctualityisamatterofprimaryimportanceintheeducationprocess.Students,whentardy,or
unprepared,disrupttheeducationalprocessandjeopardizetheirownacademicachievement.
Studentsmustbeintheclassroomwhenthetardybellringswiththenecessarymaterials.7th‐12th

Warnings
Studentsaregivenwarningswhentheydonotobeytherules.Theyarespokentowhentheyhave
violatedarule.Iftheinappropriatebehaviorcontinuesafterthewarning,thestudentwillbe
disciplinedappropriatelyandparentsmaybenotifiedifdeemednecessarybytheteacher.
MiddleSchool
DemeritSystem(Grades5‐8)
AdemeritsystemwillbeusedasaconsequencefornotfollowingtheELIWay(see
appendix).Demeritsareearnedforbeingdisrespectful,irresponsibleanddishonest.Afterschool
detentionwillbeearnedwiththeaccumulationof10demerits.(ex:12totaldemerits=1
detentionwith2demeritsearnedtowardthenextdetention)Whenastudentearns20demerits
theywillreceiveaonedayin‐schoolsuspension.Whenastudentearns30Demeritstheywill
receiveaonedayoutofschoolsuspensionandthestudentwillbeplacedondisciplinary

1. Eachsemesterallowsastudenttostartfreshwithacleanslatewithminoroffenses,

DisciplinaryInterventionPlans
InterventionPlansareinvokedbytheadministrationwhenitbecomesapparentthatastudenthas
ormaybeheadedtowardaseriousproblem.Itgivesthestudenttheopportunitytocorrect
him/herdirectionandtoassumetheresponsibilitiesinvolvedinamorematureandappropriate
manner.
InterventionPlansmaybeputinplaceforthefollowingreasons:
A. Attitude:Arebelliousspiritwhichisunchangedafteraneffortbytheteachers,faculty,
administration,oracontinuednegativeoruncooperativeattitudeandnegativeinfluence
uponotherstudents.
B. Misconduct:Continueddeliberatedisobediencetoateacherorofschoolrulesandpolicy,
committingaseriousbreachofconductinoroutofschoolwhichhasanadverseeffect
uponthestudent’sorschools’Christiantestimony.
CellPhonePolicy
NoCellphones(includingbutnotlimitedtootherelectronicdevicesincludingsmartwatches)are
allowedatanytimeduringtheschoolday.Phonesshouldnotbeseen,heard,orinuse,andwillbe
confiscatedregardlessofowner.
 FirstOffense:Phonewillbeturnedintotheoffice.Thestudentwillhavethechoiceof
paying$25(studentcanreceivethephoneattheconclusionoftheschooldayfromthe
office)orhavingtheAdministrationholdthephonefor24hours.
 SecondOffense:Phoneturnedintotheoffice.Phonewillbeconfiscatedfor24hours.

againstateacherorotherschoolpersonnelwillresultinimmediatedismissal.
 Studentsarenotallowedtogototheirvehiclesorhangoutintheparkinglotduringthe
schoolday,unlesstheyhavepermissionfromtheofficetoretrievesomethingfromtheir
vehicle.
 Chewinggumisnotallowedoncampus.
 Studentsarenotallowedinschoolbuildingsoroncampusafterhoursunlessaccompanied
byaschoolpersonnel.
 Thepublicshowingofphysicalaffectionisnotpermittedoncampusoratschoolevents.
 TherearetimeswhenPBSdependsupontheservicesofsubstituteteachers.Regular
disciplinaryrulesapplyforasubstitute;howeverconsequenceswillbemoresevere.
 Studentsinvolvedinextra‐curricularactivitiesmustbepresentinschoolforatleastfour
classperiods(formiddleschoolatleastfourhours).Studentswhohaveadoctor/dentist
appointmentonthedayofanevent/practicemustalsobeinattendanceatschoolforat
leastfourperiods.
Re‐occurringMinorOffenses:Studentswhocontinuetohavere‐occurringminoroffenseswill
besubjecttofurtherdisciplinaryactionandbeplacedonBehaviorProbation.
MAJOROFFENSES
1. Alcohol:Drinkingalcoholorundertheinfluenceatschoolorduringanyschoolfunctionmay
resultindismissal.Anystudentwhousesalcoholoffcampuswillbesubjecttodisciplinary
actionattheschool(including,butnotlimitedto,threedaysuspension,servicehours,
counseling).ThestudentwillbeplacedonBehaviorProbation.Anystudentthatprovides
alcoholonoroffcampusmaybesubjecttodismissal.PleaserefertoAlcoholUseand
Possessionsectionofthehandbook.Note:Asecondoffenseinvolvingalcoholonoroff
campuswillresultindismissal.
2. Drugs:Thesale,purchase,possession,consumption,etc.ofillegaldrugsatanytime(onoroff
campus)willresultinexpulsionandthenecessarynotificationofproperauthorities.All
studentsandemployeesaresubjecttorandomdrugtests.Seeproceduresfortestingforillegal
substances.
3. Tobacco:Theuseoftobacco,inanyform,atschoolorduringanyschoolfunctiononcampus
willresultinasuspension.Thisincludesvapingorsimilarinhalants.Thestudentwillbe
placedonBehaviorProbation.Repeatedoffenseswillresultindismissal.

4. OtherSubstances:Anysyntheticinhalant,chemicalormind/moodalteringsubstanceornon‐
prescribedsubstance(includingbutnotlimitedtobathsaltsorothersubstances)arestrictly
prohibitedatschoolorduringanyschoolfunction(onoroffcampus).Anystudentusingor
haspossessionofthesesubstanceswillbesubjecttodisciplinaryactionatschool(includinga
threedaysuspension,servicehours,andcounseling).ThestudentwillbeplacedonBehavior
Probation.Asecondoffenseinvolvingtheseproductswillresultindismissal.
5. Fighting:Studentswhoengageinfightingwillbesubjecttodisciplinaryaction(suspendedor
dismissal)andbeplacedonBehaviorProbation.
6. HarassmentorBullying:EverystudentatPBShastherighttohis/herowndignityand
individuality.Anystudentwhodevelopsabehavioralpatternofassaulting,harassing,bullying
ordemeaninganotherstudent(s),eitherverballyorbysocialmediameanswillbesubjectto
disciplinaryaction(placedonBehaviorProbation,suspendedordismissed).Racialinsults,
ethnicinsults,sexualinnuendosorprejudicialbehaviorwillnotbetolerated.
Oneoftheprimaryresponsibilitiesasaschoolinaccordancewithourschool’smissionisto
createandsustainasafecommunity,soallstudentcanfocusontheirworkanddotheirbest.
Inordertoachievethisgoalwemustacknowledgethatbullyingcanoccurwithinour
communityandthatitisharmfultoeveryoneinvolved(thevictim,perpetratorandbystanders
alike).
 Bothboysandgirlscanengageinbullyingbehavior.We,asacommunity,willnottolerate
anattitudeofthiskindofbehaviortoexcusecruelbehaviortooneanother.
 Bullyingcanbedirectorindirect,blatantorsubtle;anditinvolvesanimbalanceofpower,
repeatedactions,andintentionalbehavior.
 Bullyingisanybehaviorconsideredphysicalaggression,socialaggression,verbal
aggression,writtenaggression,intimidation,sexualharassment,orracial/ethnic
harassment.
 Bullyingcaninvolvecuttingsomeoneofffromessentialrelationships.Bullyingcaninclude
isolatingthevictimbymakingthemfeelrejectedbytheirpeersorthecommunity.
 Bullyingismaliciousgossipandrumorspreading.
 Bullyingoftenoccursoutsideofthephysicalschoolgroundsyettheseactionsstillimpact
thesafetyofourstudentsasiftheyhaveoccurredatschool.Anybullyingbehavior
demonstratedatschooloroutsideofschoolthatimpactsourschoolcommunitywillbe
addressedbytheschool.
7. Threats:AthreatisconsideredanassaultundertheLouisianaCriminalCodeR.S.14:36.PBS
maintainsano‐tolerancepolicytowardanykindofthreat(i.e.verbal,written,gesture,picture
orotherwise).Anystudentmakingsuchathreatwillbesubjecttodisciplinaryaction
(suspendedandplacedonBehaviorProbation)orimmediatelydismissed.Localauthorities

willbecontactedandconsequencesdeterminedinameetingattendedbytheoffending
student,parents,schoolpersonnelandpoliceofficer.
8. Weapons:BringingorthreateningtobringaweapontoschoolisagainstPBSpolicyandis
alsoaviolationofstatelaw(La.RevisedStatuteTitle14‐95.2).Inadditiontoimmediate
suspensionorexpulsion,theoffendingstudentmaybesubjecttoconsequencesasmandated
bylaw.Beforetheoffendingstudentcanreturntoschool,thestudentmustbeassessedwitha
psychiatricevaluationinwhichthedocumentationstatesthestudentdoesnotposeariskto
selforothers.ThestudentwillbeplacedonBehaviorProbation. 9. AcademicDishonesty:Dishonesty,cheating,plagiarismonhomeworkassignments,test,
quizzes,papers,orotherclassroomassignmentswillresultinazeroontheassignment,aswell
asadisciplinaryconsequenceanddemeritpoints.Ifmorethanonestudentisinvolvedinthe
dishonesty,allstudentswillreceivetheconsequence.Ifastudentiscaughtwiththeircell
phonesduringatestorquiz,thestudentwillautomaticallyreceiveazerofortheassignment.
ThestudentwillbeplacedonBehaviorProbation.
10. Vandalism:Anystudentcaughtvandalizingtheschoolcampus,schoolproperty(including
schoolissuedlaptops)orintentionallydefacingschoolpropertywillbesubjecttodisciplinary
action,includingbutnotlimitedtosuspensionordismissal.Thestudentwillbeplacedon
BehaviorProbation.
11. Theft:Theftisaviolationoffundamentalcommandments.Incidentsoftheft,onceproven,
willresultindisciplinaryaction,includingbutnotlimitedtosuspensionordismissal.The
studentwillbeplacedonBehaviorProbation.
12. SkippingSchool:Studentsarenottoleaveclassorcampuswithoutpermissionfromthehigh
schooloffice.Parentalpermissionbyitselfwillnotbesufficient.Todosoexposestheschool
tounacceptableriskandcontributestopooracademicperformance.Anystudentleaving
campusduringtheschoolday,skippingschool,orleavingclasswithoutpermissionofthehigh
schoolofficewillbesubjecttodisciplinaryaction(includingbutnotlimitedtosuspensionand
placedonBehaviorProbation).Repeatedincidentswillresultindismissal.
13. Truancy:Anystudentwhoisconsistentlyabsentfromschoolwithoutauthorizationwillbe
subjecttodisciplinaryactionincludingbutnotlimitedtosuspensionordismissal.
AstudentinvolvedinamajoroffensewillbesuspendedandplacedonBehaviorProbation,
orissubjecttodismissal/expulsion,atthediscretionoftheSchoolAdministration.An
individualinvolvedinrepeatedminoroffenseswillbeconsideredfordismissal/expulsion,
atthediscretionoftheSchoolAdministration.Theremaybeotherincidentsnotlistedthat
theAdministrationreservestherighttoconsideramajoroffense.

ItisimpossibletoincludealldetailsofappropriateconductintheHandbook.Ingeneral,a
ParkviewBaptistSchoolstudentistoconducthim/herselfinaChrist‐likemanner.Whena
student’sbehaviorfallsoutsidetherealmofwhatisgenerallyexpected,appropriate
disciplinaryactionwillbeadministered.Itisourresponsibilitytoensurethatourstudents
liveandlearntogetherinacommunitythatisbuiltonrespect,caringandsupportforone
another.Anythingshortofthatcannotandwillnotbeaccepted.
Alcohol and Drug Use
POLICYFORTESTINGFORILLEGALSUBSTANCES
PBSreservestherighttorandomlydrugteststudentsthatattend.Thisarrangementisagreedto
uponenrollmentasastudent.
 StudentswillhavetheopportunitytoinformtheAdministration,priortotesting,if
theybelievetheywillhaveapositivetest.Ifthestudentconfidentiallyadmitsto
usingdrugspriortotesting,thestudentwillnotbetested.Theywillbeplacedon
BehaviorProbationfor90daysaswellasbeingprovidedanActionPlantohelp
guidethestudent.TheActionPlanwillincluderequiringthestudenttoseean
outsidecounselor,communityservice,etc.
ActionPlanforaPositiveDrugTest
 ThestudentwillbeplacedonBehaviorProbationfor90days.
 Thestudentwillbedrugtestedagainattheendofthe90dayprobationperiod.Asecond
positivetestattheendofthisperiodwillresultindismissal.Subsequentpositivetestsat
anytimeduringtheremainingtenureofastudentwillalsoresultindismissal.
 Studentscaughtcheatingonadrugtestwillresultindismissal.
DrugPossessionorUsageonCampus
 Thepossession/usageofdrugsoncampuswillresultinthefollowingactions:
o TheDeanofStudent’sofficewillimmediatelyinformtheSuperintendent,Principal
andparents.
o Parentswillbecontactedandinformedtocometoschoolimmediately.
o AsrequiredbyLouisianaStateLaw,lawenforcementwillbecontacted.Anyarrest
willbesolelydeterminedbytheinvestigatingofficerassigned.
o Thestudent(s)inpossessionand/orhavebeenproventohavehadpossessionofan
illegaldrugoncampuswillbedismissedfromschool.
o Thepossessionofdrugsandorusageofdrugsoffcampuswillresultinthestudent

Asecondoffenseinvolvingalcoholonoroffcampuswillresultinimmediatedismissal.
MiddleSchoolBehaviorConsequences
AFTERSCHOOLDETENTION
Detentionswillbeassignedtostudentswithregardingclassdisciplineissuesandminor
offenses.DetentionswillbeonTuesdayandThursday(3:00‐4:30).Tardytodetentionswillbe
consideredafailuretoattend.Failuretoattendwillresultinadditionaldayofdetentionontopof

MORNINGDETENTION
Detentionswillassignedtostudentswithregardingclassdisciplineissuesandminoroffenses.
DetentionswillbeonWednesdayandFridaymornings(6:40am‐7:20am).Theywillbeworking
detentions(i.e.cleaningcampus,etc.).Tardytodetentionswillbeconsideredafailuretoattend.
Failuretoattendwillresultinadditionaldayofdetentionontopofthedetention(s)thestudentis
serving.Missingdetentiontwicewillresultinanin‐schoolsuspension.
SATURDAYWORKDAY
ASaturdayWorkdaymaybe2‐4hoursdependingontheinfraction.Therewillbeaworkdayfee
assessed.Anyworkdaymissedorlate,willreceiveanin‐schoolsuspension.
IN‐SCHOOLSUSPENSION
Anin‐schoolsuspensionisafullacademicdayinlength.Thestudentwillbeplacedintheschool
officesupervisedbyfacultyand/oradministratorfortheentireschoolday.Thestudentwillbe
allowedtoworkonassignmentsgivenoutthatdayandanyotherworkdeemedappropriatebyan

administrator.Worknotcompletedwillreceivezerocredit.Studentswillreceive10%offthe
workthatisdueforthatday.Asuspendedstudentcanparticipateinextracurricularactivities
afterschool.

Cooperation with Law Enforcement
ParkviewBaptistSchoolcooperateswithlawenforcement.WhenlawenforcementcomesontheParkview
BaptistSchoolcampustheinitialpointofcontactistheDirectorofEducationalOperationswhowillthen
notifytheDivisionHeadorAssistant.
Ifastudentneedstobequestionedbylawenforcement,parents(guardians)willbenotifiedbyParkview
BaptistSchooladministrationaslongastheparent(guardian)isnotthesuspectoftheinvestigation.
QuestioningwillbedoneintheDirectorofEducationalOperationsoffice.
Theparent(guardian)isresponsiblefornotifyingParkviewBaptistSchoolofanychargesand/or
convictionsthatareclassifiedasamisdemeanororafelony.Aconvictionofafelonywillresultinexpulsion
fromParkviewBaptistSchool.
ParkviewBaptistSchoolwillfollowthedisciplinaryactionasdefinedintheParkviewBaptistSchool
handbookwhenastudentisconvictedofamisdemeanor.
AnyarrestedstudentmaynotreturntotheParkviewBaptistSchoolcampusuntil:
 Administrationmeetswiththestudent’sparents(guardians)
 AdministrationmeetswiththeParkviewBaptistSchoolSuperintendent
 Administrationmakesdecisionsonthecharges
ParkviewBaptistSchoolunderstandsthatthelawstatesthatyouareinnocentuntilprovenguilty.
However,duetothesafetyandwell‐beingofourstudentsatlarge,ParkviewBaptistSchoolmusttreatany
allegation,criminalornot,asserioustothemissionoftheschool.Disciplinemaybeadministeredonacase
bycasebasisuponinvestigationofallegations,regardlessofcharges,arrests,conviction,pleaagreementor
anyotherlegalprogress.
EXPULSION / DISMISSAL PROCESS
Ifastudentisrecommendedforexpulsion,theteacher/disciplinarianinchargemustturnthe
studentovertotheDivisionHeadwhomustfollowtheprocessoutlinedbelow.Itshouldbenoted

thatalthoughthisprocessisconcise,eachincidentwillberesolvedonacase‐by‐casebasisinafair
andreasonablemanner.
 Thestudentmustbeinformedoftheinfraction(s),verballyorinwriting,andthestudent’s
parent(s)/legalguardianmustbecontactedwhilethestudentisstillintheadministrator’s
officeandnolaterthancloseofschoolonthatsameday;
 Thestudentandhisparent(s)/legalguardianmustbeinformedofthedegreeofdiscipline,
asrelatedtotheincidentandisnotedbelow;
 IftheappropriateDivisionHeaddeterminesthatmultipleminorinfractionshavebecome
significantenoughtowarrantexpulsionfromschool,orifamajorinfractionhasoccurred
whileoncampusorataschoolevent,thestudent’sparent(s)/legalguardianwillbecalled
toschoolforanimmediatemeetingwiththeDivisionHead.
 ThepurposeofthismeetingwillbefortheDivisionHeadtoinformtheparent(s)/legal
guardianofParkviewBaptistSchoolBoardPolicyregardingtheexpulsionprocessand
theirrighttoappealthedecisionoftheDivisionHead.
 Iftheparent(s)/legalguardianschoosetoappeal,theyshouldsetupameetingwiththe
Superintendenttodiscusstheircase.IftheSuperintendentagreeswiththefinaldecision
madebytheDivisionHead,theparent(s)/legalguardianshavetherighttoappealtothe
Superintendentinwritingwithinfifteen(15)daysoftheinfraction,wherein,the
SuperintendentwillrefertheappealtotheParkviewBaptistSchoolBoardPresident.Only
parent(s)/legalguardiansofthestudentmaysubmitthisletterand/orappealonbehalfof
thestudent.ThePBSSchoolBoardwilldetermineiftheBoardwillofficiallyhearthe
appeal.Correspondencewillthenbesenttotheparent(s)/legalguardianregardinga
meetingorafinaldecisionmadebythePBSBoard.Afterahearing,thePBSBoardwill
respondinwritingwithinseven(7)daystotheparent(s)/legalguardian.
 AnystudentexpelledfromParkviewBaptistSchoolwillbedirectedtothePBSBoardPolicy
withregardtothestepsforappeal,outlinedintheabovesection.Anystudentdismissed
fromParkviewBaptistSchoolfordisciplinaryreasonswillnotbepermittedtoattendany
schoolfunctionwithoutadministrativeapproval.
