A project to create, implement and record a whānaucentred suicide pre and post-vention approaches based
on developing and fostering resilience through stronger
connections with each other, to the whenua and through
leadership and skills development.
A project to raise the awareness of suicide in the Kaipara
communities to build the capacity of Māori whānau, hapū,
iwi, Pacific families and communities to prevent suicide
and respond effectively if and when a suicide occurs.
Safe - Talk and art wānanga using art as a tool for activism
and education and suicide prevention resources.
The delivery of the campaign Talk Tu and the
establishment of Rōpu Kōrero Haumaru Kaiāwhina (Safe
Talk Groups) catalysts for starting the discussions around
suicide in the communities of Dannevirke, Foxton,
Shannon and Levin.
Self Esteem for Life personal and professional learning
modules addressing personal appearance, self-care and
presentation.
A project to build capacity within diverse Cook Islands
communities to prevent and respond to suicide.

The Aroha Project is a response to bullying, alienation and
suicide risk among Māori and Pacific youth, with a special
focus on LGBTQI young people and communities.

prevention, reducing suicide risks, bringing people
together, and resourcing them to prevent suicide and
support those bereaved by suicide.

production that speaks of guidance out of the realms of

Developing a Pacific Youth Suicide Prevention Programme
for Canterbury.
A project designed to assess indigenous Pacific
conceptualisations of wellbeing, and their alignment and
use with Pacific peoples in suicide post-vention response,
based on the research of Dr Karlo Mila-Schaf and Dr
Evangelene Daniela into healing in the context of Pacific
mental health.
A performing arts project engaging young people in
positive, creative interactions, including workshops and
mentoring and the creation of digital resources which
promote safety and wellbeing, suicide prevention, mental
health and wellness, resiliency, team building and conflict
resolution.
The extension and enhancement of a presentation that
raises awareness and understanding of the key issues that
individuals, groups and families are facing, linking to the
necessary services and provisions for communities to deal
with these issues and generate Pacific – friendly solutions.
Extending community awareness, reach and capacity in
suicide prevention through a two day ASIST (Applied
Suicide Interventions Skills Techniques) workshop
specifically for the Māori community in Whāingaroa.
A project to raise awareness of suicide, understanding
around the risk factors and information about appropriate

admission of services that can help whānau with issues
relating to mental health, education, sexual health, drug
and alcohol and healthy lifestyles in a remote settlement.
A programme designed to build the capacity of Ngāti Haua
and their marae to improve knowledge, skills, behaviours
and attitudes that will contribute to suicide prevention.
The establishment of an Interagency Cluster Group and a
series of Noho Marae to raise at risk and suicide
awareness and to initiate positive activity and response to
“help kids live life”.
A project combining a wide variety of print, film and online
resources, produced to support culturally appropriate
suicide prevention and post-vention education and
training through wānanga in communities throughout
Aotearoa.
Young Māori and Pacific people in Tauranga and Te Puke
areas using music and martial arts to help cope with
difficult situations they experience in life, helping them to
be resilient and better prepared for the transition to
adulthood.
