The World Heritage Area includes one of the few continually surviving rainforest in the world. It contains many primitive and ancient plants and animals and the highest concentration of primitive flowering plant families in the world. The Wet Tropics community benefits economically from the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area through tourism and the flow on effects of tourism.
