PRESS RELEASE March 2012 Enforce Tac 2012 and IWA & OutdoorClassics 2012: Police and security officials source information in Nürnberg Security sector booming: more than 10 billion euros a year Exhibitions as interface between police and industry for the development of special equipment High-tech products from the outdoor sector used by security officers Nürnberg offers unique combination of exhibitions for the police Representatives from police units and security experts from official agencies all over the world come to Nürnberg in March. Their destination is the Enforce Tac (8 – 9 March 2012) and IWA & OutdoorClassics (9 – 12 March) exhibitions, at which the international manufacturers present their new products from the hunting, sports shooting, outdoor and security segments. The security market is booming and achieves annual sales of ten billion euros in Germany, reports the Bundesverband der Sicherheitswirtschaft (Security Industry Federation). 4.6 billion euros are spent on security services alone, and some 170,000 people are employed in this sector. “These security experts need very special equipment, like that presented in the ‘Law Enforcement’ segment at IWA & OutdoorClassics,” says Exhibition Manager Thomas Preutenborbeck. Special products for police authorities, which are not obtainable for private security services, are presented by over 60 exhibitors at the premiere of the accompanying Enforce Tac exhibition. Here representatives from official agencies all over the world update on the latest developments and talk to the manufacturers. “The times when special police units had to make do with the remnants of military equipment are fortunately way back in the past,” explains Guido Welk, the exhibition’s PR Director. “These usually do not meet the requirements of modern security officers.” Army boots, for example, are designed for hours of marching over rough terrain. On the other hand, police officers usually walk on concrete and asphalt, so they have to cope with slippery or wet surfaces. Shoes for security officers therefore need anti-slip soles, which are more likely to be found on sports shoes. Many well-known manufacturers from the sport or outdoor segments meanwhile also manufacture products for police, security officers and the armed forces. Another typical example is functional clothing. Waterproof and breathable membranes have long been standard in the outdoor segment, but only caught on in uniforms a few years ago. “People who have to work in all weather conditions definitely need protective clothing,” explains Welk. “The same manufacturers that produce colourful functional jackets for outdoor fans now also make uniform jackets in sober colours for security officers.” The latest trend in uniforms also originates from the outdoor segment: the move away from unisex clothing. This has nothing to do with fashion. Due to their different physique, women move differently to men. Unisex clothing restricts the freedom of movement that is a vital factor on duty. The first manufacturers therefore now include tactical operational clothing specially for women in their range. Another trend is special production for special operations forces. The requirements among the elite units are so specific that off-the-peg equipment is often not adequate. Special units therefore receive their own budget and have special models made by the manufacturers. The spectrum of products ranges from specially tuned marksmen’s rifles and optics for undercover observation to special notebooks or special carrier systems for equipment, such as operational jackets tailored exactly to accommodate the equipment that has to be carried. Enforce Tac 2012 Press release – March 2012 Page 2/4 Market for personal security also growing Besides the products for police and security officers, the market for personal security is another important segment at IWA & OutdoorClassics. The spectrum ranges from pocket alarm and batons to innumerable variants of pepper sprays. Examples of popular products are powerful torches with integrated strobe function to dazzle possible attackers and provide an opportunity to escape. These torches are getting smaller all the time – and have now reached the size of a key ring. Combining the two exhibitions means that the product spectrum at IWA & OutdoorClassics and Enforce Tac meets the demand from all relevant target groups. “Whether official agency representative or security outfitter looking for products for professional use or civil retailer selling selfprotection articles for young women on their way home from the disco, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for in Nürnberg,” says Thomas Preutenborbeck. For trade visitors only Admission to IWA & OutdoorClassics is restricted exclusively to trade visitors. Persons under 18 years of age are not admitted to the exhibition. Entrance tickets for IWA & OutdoorClassics are issued only to visitors from relevant supply trade firms, official agencies and security companies. Enforce Tac is a special exhibition for trade visitors from official agencies. The event focuses on official agency business relating to police technology, police equipment and training. Admission is strictly controlled and restricted solely to visitors with proof of eligibility. An official pass with photo or an official pass in conjunction with an official identity card with photo is mandatory as proof of eligibility for admission to the exhibition. Eligibility is granted to manufacturers, wholesalers and authorized wholesalers involved in the procurement channels of official agencies only if they are in possession of a personal letter of invitation from an exhibitor at Enforce Tac stating the reason for visiting.
