Primary Care Scholarship
Students who are selected for this program receive $30,000 annually in return for a commitment to complete a Primary Care residency in Ohio and to practice in Ohio for no less
than 3 years after completion of residency (and fellowship if applicable). This 3 year service
commitment must be completed at an institution that accepts Medicaid patients. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be an Ohio resident enrolled full-time in the MD
program and must currently be in good academic standing with the College of Medicine.
Service Requirements:
The recipient agrees to complete residency in a Primary Care specialty (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, IM/Pediatrics) in Ohio. Participation in the
Choose Ohio First Program does not guarantee the recipient a residency position at
a qualifying Ohio institution. The process of applying to and interviewing with a residency program is a competitive one. Applicants are strongly encouraged to take this
into consideration before accepting funding from this program.
The recipient must practice in Ohio for no less than 3 years after completion of residency (and fellowship if applicable). The 3 year service commitment must be completed with an institution that accepts Medicaid patients.
The award is renewable; a recipient can receive multiple years of funding at the
$30,000 level for each year in exchange for one single service commitment.
Students who accept the scholarship for more than one year will be asked annually
to review and reaffirm their agreement to complete the service commitment.
