Formal: OC’s formal has been postponed. Discussed that a Thursday or a Sunday night may be the best option for our formal. Mentioned offering a free formal may draw people out to the event more readily, charging $5.00 to secure spot, getting the $5.00 back at the door. Vice President’s Report CASSC: More information on auxiliary fee situation. Calculations indicate the Colleges budget increased 71 cents more per student, amounting to $4788.00 for the whole campus. Last years budget to be baseline moving forward. Athletics and Housing budgets not affected. Presentation from TUNA co-president Shanese. Discussed concerns with the tipi being disrespected. Please try to raise awareness of this happening to prevent it from happening again in the future. CASSC Terms of References to be updated. Thinking of having an Issues Committee under CASSC. Would have discussions on issues and make recommendations to CASSC and Nona for how to move forward. The Athletics Committee hasn’t met this year yet. Will be happening soon. Presentation from Cory about summer residence. Would be Annex, offering for first and/or second term in the summer, not including a meal plan at $125.00/week. Available for students taking summer courses Trent Mudder Funding Request Trent wide obstacle course. Last year about 546 students participated in the event. Will be happening April 2nd. Hoping for the weather to be a little warmer for the event, and also lines up with LEC’s spring events since the mud is reused for these events. Assessing for accessibility. Asking for $400.00 from Cabinets. Hoping to cut costs by getting donations. Soil costs have increased as well as hay costs. Budgeting for 100 volunteer shirts, increase to account for take down as Mudder will have a clean up crew this year. Participants shirts haven’t been included on budget Working with recruitment to get at least one team from each surrounding high school to participate to give prospective students a look at Trent besides the tours. This is still up in the air still. Open to Trent Durham and Fleming to participate as well. Looking for Gzowski Cabinet to volunteer or participate in the event. Signup will start end of February. Cost is $10.00 a person. Discussion: Kaitlin indicated that Cabinet doesn’t have the funds in the budget to be able to give $400.00. Would like to start a sign up sheet, and would like as many Cabinet members to volunteer as possible to show Cabinet’s support. Proposed to Cabinet offering the use of Cabinet’s amps and any other resource in Cabinet office that would be helpful for Mudder. Cabinet agreed this sounded like a good decision; discussed having a sign-out sheet for anything that is borrowed. Kaitlin indicated that she has talked with the other Cabinets to let them know of our financial situation. Motion to approve $200.00 to Trent Mudder made by Kaitlin, seconded by Dhan. Discussion: Kaitlin would like to get a list of volunteers as well. All in favour. Motion carried. Senator’s Report Unable to attend Senate meeting, Dhan also unable. Have been in touch with Tonic about the possibility of karaoke. To get more information about Tonic and see about other options. Feb 25th is the date that is being discussed currently. Brenna: Thinking about looking at what it would take to get drop in counseling hours. Kaitlin mentioned that Fleming College has drop in hours and that at University of Winnipeg 80% of students felt this was beneficial after implemented. Thinks would be good to introduce to Trent. Kaitlin suggested the first step would likely be contacting Fleming to see how they implemented the drop in hours. Lindy suggested that this would be good to bring up at the Wellness Committee meeting. Discussed that there are space issues currently, would have to see how to work with the space if wanted to do this. Kaitlin said Fleming removed some of their bookable hours to create the drop in hours. Betty said mental health counseling has been discussed at many meetings she's been to, and thinks this would be important to look into. Lindy mentioned there is talk about looking into the biggest needs of students coming in for sessions and determining how to better address these needs. For students with homesickness for example, counseling sessions not helping. Indicated a peer-to-peer option has been discussed as a possibility, with students with high amounts of training, to give students a community. Potentially for the evenings, in colleges, Lindy mentioned the possibility of different places each week or holding at a central space like a space in the library. Lindy indicated that it is all conversation right now; nothing has been planned or is moving forward. Andrew suggested maybe having a community meeting with other students to hear their thoughts on this as well. Stephen noted that what Lindy mentioned sounds like how TUEFRT was started. Kaitlin mentioned targeting a program like this to those in the social work program; students would have some basis of training before getting more intensive training. Discussed that it would also give hands on experience for them moving forward. TCSA office will be open when they move into the Student Centre, discussed that it could be kept in mind for a space for something like this. Motion to table the discussion of drop in counseling made by Betty, seconded by Stephen seconded. All in favour. Motion carried. Volunteer Expo: Will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Kaitlin mentioned that a new trifold would need to be purchased for this. Venue is the back up option. Winter College Weekend: Lacrosse equipment has been purchased. Have spoken to Chartwells, in talks with pub services. AndrewTACSU Event: Thinking of working with TACSU on an event. Betty explained that the event will allow a platform for students to talk about experiences as persons of colour at university. Participants to hold up a sign and take picture, make posters with their photo. Andrew indicated this event would help to give a voice to the participants. Hoping to propose funding $100.00 to the event from his funding line. Gzowski College Festival of Food, Your Passport to Food Around the World: Ticket in passport type of folder. Looking for the 23rd or 24th of February as possible dates. If able to volunteer for the event or if able to make food from traditional culture please contact Andrew. Committee Reports AndrewTUNA: CSF meeting discussed issues facing Indigenous students. Truly Indigenous during self-love week. Will address stereotypes. Students to talk about being Indigenous. DhanHousing Committee: When people apply to residence, finding students are confused with the separate payments of $30.00 for residence and $500.00 for tuition. Discussed two options set forward: 1- Don’t have to be accepted, pay $530.00 altogether. Lottery system rather than the first come first serve we have currently. 2- First come first serve still. Pay $530.00 altogether with the application with preferred residence. Discussed that having the $30.00 separate for residence allows students to apply for housing before acceptance, assuring students know they have a place to live. Makes Trent competitive against other universities. Conesus was most like how it is now. Amanda indicated CRC will be getting more information about this as well. Motion to extend the meeting by 30 minutes made by Kaitlin, seconded by Stephen. Discussion: Need to discuss extending meetings to 3 hours. All in favour. Motion carried.
