EMONITOR Odyssey Installation Notes for Oracle database page 1 EMONITOR Odyssey Installation Notes Check this List Before You Begin Here is a list of things you need to do before you begin installing EMONITOR Odyssey. Hardware Key – Attach the hardware key to the parallel port. The Hardware Key gives information to EMONITOR Odyssey to insure that you are running a legal copy of the software. This key should be attached to the back of any computer that runs EMONITOR Odyssey. CD Activation Key – Find the CD Activation key on the back of your CD jewel case. The CD Activation Key is an alpha-numeric code in the format: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx. This key tells the installation program which components you have requested, and automatically sets up the installation for those components. So, if you simply choose the Next button through the installation program, you install all the requested components from the CD key. For complete flexibility, you are also allowed to pick and choose from those components. Available Disk Space – Check your available disk space. Disk space requirements vary depending on which components you need to install. The installation program shows you exactly how much space is needed for each component. For a guideline, EMONITOR Odyssey with two data collector interfaces requires 42 megabytes (MB) of disk space. EMONITOR Odyssey with all Online components requires an additional 16.5 MB of disk space, for a total of 68.5 MB. There are additional disk space requirements depending on your database setup. Be sure to check with your database administrator about these requirements and backing up your database. Specific Database Versions – Be sure you have the 32-bit version of the database software installed. Before installing EMONITOR Odyssey, you have to make sure the database version works with EMONITOR Odyssey. You might need to consult with your database administrator to verify which version of the database you are using. This table shows the minimum database versions supported with EMONITOR Odyssey. If you need to install a new version, ask your database administrator. Database software Version number Centura (formerly Gupta) 6.1.2 Oracle 7.3 or higher Sybase 10 Operating System Versions – Be sure you have Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 installed. Before installing EMONITOR Odyssey, you need to have one of these operating systems on your computer. EMONITOR Odyssey cannot be installed on Windows NT 3.51. This section is provided to give you a guide if things don’t go quite right the first time. You can install any component of an online system to any computer in the system, whether it’s an Unload Station or an Analysis Station or a combination of the two. When you restart your computer after installing, Unload Station Manager and Scheduler automatically start up because they are in your Start Up folder. You can modify your Start Up folder by right-clicking the Start button and choosing Explore. Open the Programs folder, then open the Start Up folder. It contains shortcuts to the programs that automatically start when you start your computer. In order to install the program on a computer running Windows NT, you have to have administrator rights. You might have to ask your computer staff to give you administrator rights in order to install EMONITOR Odyssey. If your computer crashes or gets turned off in the middle of the installation program, your uninstall files will not work. You must delete these files from your Windows or WinNT directory if a crash happens and you want your unistall files to work. dataimport.isu efw.isu generic.isu hw.isu scheduler.isu severity.isu storage.isu ul.isu Missing or Invalid Security Key on AMD K-6 Boards If you get an error message similar to the one shown below, first check to make sure your hardware key is attached to the parallel port. If the key is firmly attached, there may be a problem with the timing of the messages sent from the software to the hardware key. We have discovered that this error can occur when using an AMD K-6 board. To correct this problem, follow these steps to change the timing of the message sent between Odyssey and the hardware key. EMONITOR Odyssey Installation Notes for Oracle database page 23 1. Go to your Odyssey program directory and run Eregedit.exe. The following screen appears. 2. Scroll down and choose Security Key Timing Value P and choose Edit, or double-click on the selection. The following dialog box appears. 3. Enter the following in the New Value field: 100. 4. Choose OK. The following dialog box appears. Choose Yes. Note: These are just test values to make sure that you have the timing problem. This timing change will slow your entire system down while this setting is in place. Your mouse and keyboard are also affected by this timing change. These are only test values however, which you will change until they are correct. 5. Repeat steps 2–4 for Security Key Timing Value I and Security Key Timing Value O. 6. Try to run EMONITOR Odyssey. You should no longer get the security key error message. This confirms that timing is the problem with the security key. 7. Next, change the test values to smaller numbers. Our tests show that 40, 40, 60 are values that work well for the AMD K-6 processor. The goal is to make the number as small as possible but large enough to allow Odyssey to recognize the hardware key. This may take several tries with smaller numbers. EMONITOR Odyssey Installation Notes for Oracle database page 24 EMONITOR Odyssey Database Update If you are updating from a 2.6x database or a previous version of EMONITOR Odyssey, your database must be updated to work with the current version of EMONITOR Odyssey. These sections show how to update your database version to the latest EMONITOR Odyssey database. Only a Database Administrator (DBA) or qualified Entek IRD employee should modify the scripts and run the scripts on the database. (The DBA is usually a member of the company’s MIS or IT department.) Modify the Oracle Database Scripts These script files improve allocation control over the tablespaces in the EMONITOR Odyssey database by allowing you to put indexes and tables in separate tablespaces. This section discusses the script names and the changes to be made to the scripts. There are two script files located in the EMONITOR Odyssey program directory in the Restruct directory. The default directory is: \Program Files\Entek IRD\Odyssey\Restruct. These files are also included on the Odyssey installation CD. If you copy the files from the CD, you must change the attributes from Read-Only so that you can modify the file. The first script file is named 26x.ora. This script updates the database version from 2.6x to Odyssey Version 1.0. You use this script first if you are updating from 2.6x, then you use the second script file. The second script file is named 407.ora. This script takes the database version from Odyssey Version 1.0 to Odyssey Service Pack 1 version. You use only the 407.ora script file if your database is already Odyssey Version 1.0. To upgrade to Odyssey Version 1.1 from Service Pack 1, you use 408.ora script file. Script name Purpose 263.ora Update from 2.6x to Odyssey Version 1.0 407.ora Update from Odyssey Version 1.0 to Odyssey Service Pack 1 408.ora Update from Odyssey Service Pack 1 to Odyssey Version 1.1 410.ora Update from Odyssey Version 1.1 to Odyssey Version 1.2 Edit the script files to match current tablespace names You may need to modify the script files to match the tablespace names to your current database structure. The tablespace that contains the tables is called ENTEKD. If you need to change the name, do a search and replace in the script files. The tablespace that contains the indexes is called ENTEKI. Again, do a search and replace if you need to change the name to match your current database. Rename the script, changing the extension You must rename the extension on the script file so that the Restructure program knows to run that script. Rightclick on the file in Windows Explorer and choose Rename. Change the extension to .sql on the scripts that apply to your database version. The Restructure program automatically runs when you start EMONITOR Odyssey for the first time. If you do not rename the script file before starting EMONITOR Odyssey, the Restructure program tells you that it cannot find the correct file(s). Run the Restructure Program After you have modified the script, start EMONITOR Odyssey by pointing to it on the Start menu. The Restructure program begins after you select OK. The restructure process may take a long time, and it may appear that nothing is happening. Be patient and allow Restructure to finish. After Restructure has completely updated your database, you can begin using EMONITOR Odyssey. EMONITOR Odyssey Installation Notes for Oracle database page 25
