FOOD SERVICE
ASSISTANT
…you are important
MANAGE YOURSELF
AND YOUR JOB
Lesson 4 T1
“Why we are here is important, but to
know where you are going is
imperative. It’s not what you’ve got,
it’s what you use that makes a
difference in how your life turns out.”
—Zig Ziglar
Lesson 4 T2
FSAs Are Managers
FSAs are managers when they
• have a goal to achieve.
• are in charge of a task.
• juggle several tasks or activities.
• get satisfaction from their jobs.

circumstances.
That makes me a Manager!

four benefits of

How will I know if the
plan works?

FSAs manage themselves
and their jobs.
Organization is the first
step to effective
management.
Self-starters know how and
when to do their jobs. They
go forward and do the job.
Empowerment is
expressed when the FSA
“goes the second mile” in
serving students.
FSAs need a professional
development plan to reach
their goals.
FSAs must continue
learning and developing
skills to keep up with
change.
Lesson 4 T8
Where To From Here?
During Alice’s tour of Wonderland she
came upon the Cheshire Cat sitting a few
feet away. She gently asked, “Would you
tell me, please, which way I ought to go
from here?”
And the Cat replied, “That depends upon
where you want to go.” (Carroll, 1865)
Where do you go from here? The future
of the SNP is in your hands. You can
help make the vision of “healthy
children, ready to learn” a reality.
